Hey Folks,
Any experience with these? Thoughts? I know it's a Chinese built amp but youtube sounds great and the ac15 CC1 that i played sounded super...
I am paying a deposit on this to reserve it... But before I do... Is it worth it?
MIKA-the-better-one
YES 100% .... they are great amps....... dont let snobs like myself tell you otherwise...
Although there is a vintage ac30 in the classifieds for R8000 (not bad at all) and will be super mojo
Jacquesg4j
I saw that too... Very very tempting but I'm also getting the cc1 at a steal! And its lighter!! That is what I want!
Vick
I second everything mika said, there totally worth it...and he is a snob ?
Gearhead
Sean and this Gearhead did a couple of mods (reversed all of them) and an Orange Drop recap (opened it up but not too noticeably) on his CC1. It is not very well suited for modding at all due to the pcb.
The tone is very nice for the price, but more so on a brighter guitar than on an overwound bucker sorta guit. Must be mostly due to the Wharfedale 12" speaker I reckon, you might want to upgrade that in due course in any case.
When we replaced the stock power tubes with a pair of JJs, it sounded significantly better, something to bear in mind. Finally, it also comes down to your wishes in terms of tonal flexibility: since it is single channel it is a bit of a one trick pony, set up once and do the rest with your pedals.

Sounds good so far! Just wanted to chat to my formites before travveling quite far to go listen to it! But I will take it... That's what my gutt is telling me... Gonna sound kickass with my parker (single coils)
ActionArnie
What do these go for on the second-hand market?
I might also join the offload-a-marshall-for-something-bright-n-light club soon, although I've got a soft spot for something fenderish.

I sold my cc1x for R7250... Makes me sad. But yea I'd say look for a C1 or cc1x unless you're getting a super deal. Better speaker makes the world of a difference.
Jacquesg4j
Well... Don't know if I should say this... But I am getting it at [edited and removed]... So I might replace the speaker if I don't like the one that's in there. And if I have it right, vox + tele (parker) = very nice vibes!!
ActionArnie
yoh that is a good deal ... hmmm R7k plus might be a bit much ... would have to be a helluva lot better than my marshall to outlay the difference, got lots of other goodies I'd rather spend that money on :?

Lol is that in reference to the CC1x that I sold?

The "yoh" was for the R4.5k, the "hmmm" was for the amp you sold ?
MikeM
Perhaps you don't know the difference between a wharfdale and a celestion blue? Not to mention that the amp is arguably the most important part of your sound, so R3k extra for that tone difference is perhaps (definitely) more significant than the R3k difference between a MIM and MIA or cheap Tokai vs a midrange one.

You're right I haven't a clue what the difference is between the speakers. But my poser value increases more with the MIA than it would with the fancy speaker ? .... was just saying I couldn't afford R7k on an amp right now, not saying it wasn't worth it
MikeM
Ah my bad man!! I am a bit of a gear whore.. And my biggest discovery over the years that a good amp can almost guarantee a decent tone, where a good guitar will usually sound bad through a bad amp. I had a squier that sounded better than a MIA strat through a twin reverb. That was the big revelation for me. Thing is if you already have a decent tube amp, changing to a different one would only really colour/flavour it differently and wouldn't be worth it unless you're really sure what you want.
MIKA-the-better-one
It might be worth a go at changing the speaker when you get a chance....... at least its one speaker and not the set....
the Alnico blue makes a huge diff when cranking an amp ?
ActionArnie
Yah I hear you .... this speaker thing intrigues me ... wonder if I could get the little bit more sparkle out my marshall that I'm after with a change of speakers. I need 2 unfortunately, although I spose I could change 1 first and swap the other when I have more dosh.
(Sorry I'm hijacking a bit here)
EDIT: Ah Mika with them wise words
Jacquesg4j
Yeah I will just see what works with my guitar. The marshall works but not the sound I'm after. Speaker wise... I will probably first check if the vox has some decent valves and not the cheap chinese stuff, will first swop valves before speakers.
Oh and I might sell the vox at the end of the year ... More info to follow!
Jacquesg4j
Oh and arnie, how old are your tubes? Maybe you can look at re valving or re capping if you lack some brightness!
I've always had this idea of one greenback and one blueback in an ac30 and then micing up both... Hahaha I think that is very versatile!
MikeM
I SEE THIS IS AN AC30! JUMP ON IT QUICK!
@Jacques, a greenback and blue ? The blue's basket is completely blue, the greenback is only the mag cover.
