Hi guys,
Are there extra import duties on importing speakers versus other components? eg valves, sockets caps.
Or is it just the weight issue?
Thanks.
An extra 7% duties, 14% VAT and clearance fees.

I have a breakdown of all the charges I paid when I imported a pair of Weber 12" speakers a year ago here:
    http://articles.guitarforum.co.za/blogs/alan-ratcliffe/importing-gear-%E2%80%93-real-costs
Basically the Rand price on the speakers was R2 910.66, all the costs to do with shipping and importing brought the total to R5,635.45.

If it's a common speaker, check www.take2.co.za first, as they will often work out cheaper than bringing it in yourself.
Thanks for the info alan, I appreciate it. I can actually get the speaker I want for quite a bit less than on take2, so will go the route of bringing it in myself.
Meant have got to a computer to thank you earlier but later is better than never.
      Cheers

Wow I didn't know it cost you THAT much!!

If you don't mind me asking, what would the cost have been on the Alnico Golds at the time??

I am going to pay a fortune when my amps arrive!!! hahahaha Oh well.... :?

Tradelius quoted me R4,900 each at the time and didn't speak of any discounts. Special order 6-8 weeks too. I could have bought through Marshall Music or Bothners and gotten a decent discount, but that would have still cost me more than the Webers. Also, I have experience ordering things from Tradelius - 6-8 weeks usually becomes 6-8 months (and, on one memorable occasion, two years). Even Take2 would have cost R7K for the pair...
