Must listen Jimi Hendrix album

So....I post this with the fear of getting stoned...I have NEVER listened to ANY Hendrix songs...not that I consciously remember anyway. I might recognise a song but never realised it was him. ANYWAY, I want to buy an album of his now and would like some input on a good one to start with?

X-rated Bob wrote "Axis" will also give you a good dose of Jimi's fab rhythm playing. AND a seriously great drumming performance.

All this talk of Hendrix on the forum and all the talk in the office about "ooooooh! That dress is so PRETTY" moved me to get out the ear buds and give Axis a spin. Gooooooooooood record, and Mitch Mitchell gets close to stealing the show. I can't understand why Hendrix would want to play with anybody else.

Well, Buddy Miles is no slouch... but I do prefer Mitch myself.

i would say forget the cd's go get some of the dvd's theres tons of em out there ...and the interviews are awesome...hendrix had a way of expressing himself in his shy ,quiet spoken manner but he said it all, " like stay cool and no harm will come to you"

and his playing is inspiring and he ain't got the best vocals out there but he has such a distictive baritone voice that i love to bits...... i love his lazy singing style it suits the music

so try getting some dvd's just watching his huge hands and long fingers wrap themselves around that strats neck is worth it ........ he's an extremely visual act so just hearing cd's is only half of how hendrix can "wow" you

go get some dvd's

My favourite DVD is Hendrix at Woodstock. The man hasn't slept in 3 days, he had been ready for 12 hours to go on stage at any moment, it's now 9:30am Monday morning, the concert is over, 90% of Woodstock's half million strong have gone home. Jimi gets on stage, not flustered, not bummed out in any way and gives the performance of his life.

I have been a Hendrix nut since he came out ....... so I am taking names as to who does not like him......bwahahahaha. ?

I am not going to debate Jimi...for me he was just awesome in so many respects...as a guitar player, singer, songwriter, lyricist and performer.

The idea to check out the DVD's is solid.

Must see's are The Jimi Hendrix Experience- Live at Monterey and Band of Gypsies-Live at The Fillmore East. Crank 'em.

Axis really showcases his rhythm playing, Electric Ladyland his experimental side. Cry Of Love is a really different album also.

Overall if I were to have one Jimi album...it would be a hard choice between Band Of Gypsies and Axis Bold As Love with Electric Ladyland right behind.

Smash Hits and Are You Experienced is where it all began so it seems a good place to start.

I personally cannot understand how you can be a guitar player and not like Jimi....but then I also think most current rock flat sucks.

Just my opinion.

IceCreamMan

Band of Gypsies for me please but closely follwed by valleys of neptune ( i really really like this album ....no 1 played on my ipod )
