Must listen Jimi Hendrix album

So....I post this with the fear of getting stoned...I have NEVER listened to ANY Hendrix songs...not that I consciously remember anyway. I might recognise a song but never realised it was him.

ANYWAY, I want to buy an album of his now and would like some input on a good one to start with?

The first two are the best to get started with IMO, and will contain most of the stuff you know (that you didn't know you knew). ?

Once you've settled in a bit, you can check out Electric Ladyland. I found it the least accessible of the lot though.

I think Electric Ladyland is a great album, but not a good starting point.

True to a large degree because of songs like "And the gods made love", "Long hot summer night", "Rainy day, dream away","1983..a merman i should turn to be", "Burning of the midnight lamp" and the extended bluesy version of Voodoo Chile.
But check out "Little miss strange", "Come on let the good times roll", "Crosstown traffic", "Have you ever been to Electric Ladyland", "Gypsy Eyes", "Voodoo Chile (slight return)" and "All along the watchtower".

Axis: bold as love is just too awesome for words and a great starting point.

you are not alone.. i know the name of some of Hendrix's songs (about 2 of them) but dont own a single cd or anything of his.. in fact, i think his style of music was kak.. not his playing, i'll concede he was good on guitar.. but the type of music just grinds my soul into pieces... wanna start eating my own foot off if i hear his stuff.

"Axis" will also give you a good dose of Jimi's fab rhythm playing. AND a seriously great drumming performance.

'Axis' for me. Still sounds great and has very good songs on it plus really demonstrates that Hendrixy rhythm playing style that I so love!

But Hendrix is not for everyone and is certainly an acquired taste, like wine. I never used to 'get' Hendrix when I was younger and was far more taken by the 80s guitarists, but over time I have really grown into him and now I can't dispute the greatness of the guy. I now have big love for both Hendrix and red wine! Funny point is that I find Hendrix music still fresh today, he is almost timeless unlike some of those said 80s guitarists!

So you are saying that Axis is like Meerlust Rubicon but it has to be open awhile for it to breathe....

I think I am saying that 'Hendrix' is like a Meerlust Rubicon. Both of which would have been wasted on me at 18 but now for which I would come running!

All this talk of Hendrix on the forum and all the talk in the office about "ooooooh! That dress is so PRETTY" moved me to get out the ear buds and give Axis a spin. Gooooooooooood record, and Mitch Mitchell gets close to stealing the show. I can't understand why Hendrix would want to play with anybody else.
