Searching his name only returned 2 posts on the forum! So I decided I had to rectify that.
wikipedia wrote: Earl Hooker (January 15, 1929 – April 21, 1970) was a Chicago blues guitarist. Hooker rarely sang and in a genre where the stars were vocalists or vocalists/instrumentalists, his commercial success was limited. However, he "was undeniably a virtuoso among guitar players"[1] and has been acknowledged by many of his peers. As B.B. King commented: "to me he is the best of modern guitarists. Period. With the slide he was the best. It was nobody else like him, he was just one of a kind".[2]
Some delicious faster bluesy stuff

It is said that Jimi Hendrix referred to him as 'the master of the wah' - although I've also heard that he didn't actually use a wah pedal until later and used the tone control on his guitar (can someone confirm?).

He is also known for using a short slide in standard tuning (a style that I also like playing). Mixed with wah this gives him a very expressive sound.

There might be better examples - I don't know his whole range as well. I actually like his singing as well.

To end off - I love the lyrics in the next song ?

ENJOY!

been listening to him all mornign so I thought this thread deserved a bump!
ok seeing as two of the original videos that I posted have been removed, here are two more, showcasing some of the man's influence. Both are tracks that were recorded as instrumentals by mr Hooker, that had vocals overdubbed by Muddy Waters, and were then reworked in some way by Led Zeppelin.

As much as I love Zeppelin I don't think their version does the original justice
