TJs May 5 - GFSAers in action!

Warren and Fingerpicker from this forum will be performing. Yours truly will be MC. Line up * Warren - doing his own material, a world first! * Richard Bruyns and Mike Burger - rootsy instrumentals. Mike is a very good finger style player with great touch and tone. Richard plays lap steel. * Them Particles - roots rock. Think Tom Waits goes to the bayou (via Springs). They'll be doing an unplugged set on the night. * John van Nierop and Scott Baldauf - blues and bluegrass. John on guitar, Scott on mandolin. * Cellphone Cowboys - Fingerpicker's band. Laid back and soulful. A trifling 25 SA ront at the door. Doors open at 19:30. Music starts at 20:00. Venue: Marks Park sports club, Judith Road, Emmarentia Light meals and drinks available. Look OK... I'm biased, but this is a good lineup and what else are you going to do on that particular night in this particular town for that particular amount of money? Stay at home and watch re-runs of Chuck and Di's wedding?

The brothers are up here recording for their 2nd CD and have agreed to do a set at TJs.

TJs usually meet 1st, 3rd and last Thursdays of the month. The last Thursday is open mic, the other two nights are in a much bigger room and its' "set menu" with artists pre-arranged and longer performance slots.

I was there last week, but not for long. Mrs X-rated was not feeling well so we left quite early.

Well I'm sure you do. I require Gwyneth Paltrow and Gina Bellman in the back of a stretch limo with tinted windows.

And lots of soft furnishing - after all there's room in the back of those limos.

And privacy. A lot of privacy.

Champagne is good too.

And a stack of Lowdens.

Gwyneth on the one side asking "what about the walnut back and sides?" Gina on the other whispering "DADGAD or drop D?"

Anyway them's my requirements. Everyday I am disappointed but there's always a next day.

anyway @Bob, "break a leg " as they say in show biz, you getting to be a pro at putting on a show , your last one was awesome , and of course keeping your "troops" in line......

wish i was there, ....... every day i ask myself why couldn't i have been a "trust fund baby ? but some of us have to "work" for a living

Webejame who pops up on GFSA from time to time took great pictures of the last show I put on for TJs and will be taking photos again tonight.

But don't wait for the photos. Come along to the show and take some memories home as well. If I do say so myself this is a strong lineup.

It does seem good for that association.

For TJ's I'm less sure - though I don't sit on the comittee and beyond the nights that I organise or my own performances don't have to take responsibility for anything.

Two main problems
1) Sometimes we get artists who have contractual obligations that would make distributing a DVD problematic
2) Licensing fees - selling the DVDs would amount to selling performances of copyrighted material.

Also we'd have to get a feed from the sound desk to the video equipment.

So a nice idea - but I see problems in this case.

Yer right hey. For point 1 anyway. But as for point 2? Youtube is a problem then? all of the covers in the other thread for shoving covers are also an issue? Anyway, speaking strictly legal yer right. But then, how about doing the open mic night. Then okes can have their first public performance preserved alongside the stag party, wedding, and christening vids?

I'd think that the difference is in the taking of money.
