Soooooo It was going to be a Celestion Gold in one of my new amps...

I wanted to see what else was available on the alnico side..

So I looked at the Tone Tubbys :-\ Nothing caught my ears, eyes...

Then I checked out the Scumnico... Love that

But dam there is another speaker in this demo, that makes me want to give up the Alnico

Which do you prefer?
Why?
Does anyone have hands on experience with any Scumbacks?

Help!!!!!
In this particular amp, I am looking for a clean sound.. that can do rock as well...

Will it be 1x12? How much power are you going to put into it?
The Scumnico sounds nice, so does the first one. I like the single light driven notes on the Large Cap one, but it's a bit too middy for the rhythm stuff (lacks detail in the treble).

        Its a 20w, 1 12" ????

Im all for the Scumnico, but that M75 just sounds spectacular.. So now Im stuck
Unless you are going for fairly heavy sounds or want to move away from the Voxy flavour, I'd stick with the Scumnico - more complex cleans and a smoother drive sound. The clips don't show it, but you should also get a smoother transition from clean to crunch when you're playing on the edge and more compression (in a good way) when driven. The Scumnico seems to sound more like a Celestion Blue than a Gold, but is missing some of the chime and midrange that both the Celestions have (Although the Gold's chime is a bit lower pitched than the Blue).

To be honest, given all the choices, I'd probably still go for Gold...

Ah Alan you not making it easier! ?

No I dont want to move away from the voxy flavour at all. But I do want a cleaner sound too.
I also think the Scumnico is neither a blue, it seems a bit flatter to my ears. For lack of a better word. rolled of highs maybe? more mids?

Alan I am leaning towards the Gold, and probably can't go wrong with that.
Apparently the Blue looses a bit of control at higher volumes in the AST.

Will wait to see what Kelly from Swart has to say, he is pretty undecided and says they all have their place, depending on what you playing, and obvioulsy what mood you in.
Unfortunately, we cant have 6 amps lined up to satsify those moods ?

Definitely less mids on the Scumnico, which give it a bit more of a balanced response than the Blue or Gold, but it's in the same ballpark. Actually from the clips it sounds smack bang in between my Weber 50W Blue Dog and Silver Bell.

I wouldn't use a Blue in a 20W amp, they don't handle extra power well unless you always keep it down.

Which model Swart are you getting, BTW? I know it's an AST, but which one? Just thinking - if you had the head, you could use with your Heritage cab, and then get a second cab with something completely different (like the M75).

Ah LESS mids!! ? My ears must be tired. Will have a listen again tonight with some quality recordings I have.

Dont't know the Webers at all.

Jip, I hear it really stuggles at higher volumes, hence the Gold is the only alnico option for me.
Its top of the list at the moment...

Ah I have ordered an Atom, and an AST Pro. The Atom should be here soon. AST Pro around 6-8 weeks... Custom build, with custom colours so it's taking a bit longer ?
                Now I am done...

No head, the cab would have cost a fortune to bring in :'(
I wanted too. but for my needs it would just be silly.

I do want the SST30 sometime, and there is a rumor of a AST but with EL84s coming soon! Fire breathing EL84s ?
                Need!!!
                Then I am done..
