This week my eyes have well and truely been opened. People say that the club scene is dead and everyone is in it for themselves but I disagree.
I've been struggling my arse off to get belts for my belt sander and Jacques from the forum offered the use of his works woodworking equipment so that I could get things done.............awesome.
Last week I bought a Isuzu double cab and promptly joined the Isuzu offroaders club and asked a few guys for help on a tonneau cover, only to have a member forward me on to another member who got me over R500 off the agents retail price and a promise for further discounts if I needed gear.
ps...............those that say that karma aint real.
1) This week I sent some guitar spares to a member if he just covered the postage. Just because they were laying around and he could actually need them, I chucked in some extras just in case he could use them too.
2) I'm picking up some spares from Aubrey for myself and Jacques on Saterday, this was actually arranged a while ago.
3) I hooked up a friend with a new car radio from a connection at autostyle after hers was stolen.
Who says what goes around doesn't come around?????
Ray
You right hey. I've had lots of this sort of thing at the golf clubs I have belonged to. Btw everbod, I need a SG, oine of those reddish ones like Derek Trucks plays and just the standard will do for now.
louwd123
in other terms it's called, FWB's, or Friends With Benefits, ?
But on a more serious note, I agree, what goes around comes around! And then some sour people can't understand why "everybody" around them are sour with them, but nice with other people.

Hehe - I thought you were talking about the Man United vs Chelsea game last night!

Yeah... I was also blessed a lot over the last 2 weeks:
1) Riaan sent me some Toneriders for my Parker all the way from Kimberley to try, and if I liked them I could buy it from him... If not ,just send them back! And I like them so I am keeping them!
2) Also the free Fender tuners and bridge from Aubs... Now I have to start my first build!
3) Our keyboardist from church (Also our MD) and amazing woman, asked if she could get me an e-bow or something that I really needed as she feels that she wants to get me something.
So yeah, sometimes we do get some little 'winks' from above!

Hey Ray, i've got a red Epi SG with DiMarzio pups, how many buckeroonies are you willing to part with - but - it's way down here in the Cape
as for karma, when all is done and dusted, it's one of the few things that will still carry on going round and round and round and ..........

Something I learned from my wife ........... "If your hands/ fists are clenched, no-one can put anything in it, but if they are open, .........."
Another: "What you do for someone today, is not for yourself, but perhaps for your children one day ........"

Just to wear my wet-blanket/douche-bag hat for a change :? Karma has been misunderstood ever since the first hippie took a drag on a joint. Karma is a bad force that keeps you tied to the world of illusions and stops you making contact with the divine reality - free from the cycle of death and rebirth into this vale of tears.
Gurus who sit on top of a pole for 25 years with their arms in the air are trying to destroy their karma by refusing to acknowledge the perceived, illusory world of the everyday - comfort. food. drink. friendship. commerce. Hindus pray to gods to destroy their karma for them - something they believe these beings are capable of doing.
Karma is all bad.
But after that little know-it-all lecture, I totally agree that it's amazing the reciprocity that gets going through the internet - where you can easily find people with the same interests. People who are into the same things. And we're always willing to go further for those people. Maybe in the long run, the internet will help to break down a lot of barriers this way.

^^^ +1. The concept is known as Samsara, the eternal material cycle of death and reincarnation. If you manage to rid yourself of karma, you leave Samsara upon your death in the current cycle and reach the plane of, yep you guessed it, Nirvana.

oi oi oi...............no doom and gloom on my karma thread, go take a dump on another thread................. ?

Guys, let's not spend too much time talking about what happens when you die and which deities will deal with you.
I know it's detached and intellectual and theoretical right now, but if a religious debate starts up I will shut this thread down, irrespective of which way the debate is going.
I also know there's no mischievous or provocative intent, but we have had posts on spiritual/supernatural concepts (eg 2012) spiral out of control in the past, so I'm raising a cautionary flag here and now.

All the examples here in this thread just go to show one of the reasons I love this forum! Nowadays a lot of people just care about themselves, but on this forum most people are really friendly and encouraging and nice and trusting! And i think its sooooo good that you can trust people! Like Im buying a squier from Chris77 (think thats the number...) and hes sending me the guitar and I can decide if im happy with it else I can send it back having only paid postage!!! Now thats incredible to me! ?

yeah i've made alot of good friends on the forum, from all over, joburg, kimbo and alot in cape town.
I've read a book on marketing recently, it really changed my point of view on life.
basically what comes around goes around.
Bob-Dubery
I think that what goes around does come around, but on a more prosaic level. It's simply about initiating and encouraging the behaviour that you think is good and beneficial, being proactive about it. It's the power of one - the more "ones" do whatever it is the more that happens and the bigger the effect.

agreed..........well said. I must admit where I can help someone, I will..........always been that way.

Just a reminder that GFSA does not necessarily endorse any posts here and you act on anything read here on your own responsibility and at your own risk.
I say this because I recently loaned some gear to a GFSAer and the gear isn't back and the GFSAer in question shows no signs of being keen to return the borrowed kit and isn't replying to emails.
Sorry to burst any bubbles.

The act of giving goes far further than material goods.
Last week, in a corporate presentation, I used GFSA as an example where I illustrated how a group of like-minded and eager people can create mutually beneficial relationships of knowledge sharing and innovation.
When I joined this forum I had never picked up a guitar.
Through the help I've got here I am now playing a Strat (albeit badly); that I made/assembled with the help, knowledge and genuine encouragement of people on this forum.
I have also met some amazing people.
If that can happen with a guitar; imagine what that can mean for innovation in industry?
So we mustn't under-estimate the potential role we can play through our actions; positive or negative.
It's an issue of role models and example setting.
If we see behaviour we like and which inspires us, we may be motivated to embrace the same behaviour.
(The same is sadly also true of negative behaviour becoming viral and replicating)
I continue to be astounded by the help I get from people on this forum with the answers to my mundane questions that they must have answered a million times, but continue to help out.
i.e. "a self-energising-virtuous-circle" vs. "a-spiral-of-doom"
(and no Ray - I don't have an SG for you)
