NAD - Fender Bassman

Got this on sunday from a forum member as a replacement for my Peavey Classic 30. Not that the Peavey did anything wrong, infact with the Greenback it could hold its own (my opinion obviously) just that when Reinhard brought his 2x12 cab to practice the extra air the two 12s moves just gives you that much more oemph 8)

Only got the single Greenback, second one SHOULD arrive tommorow but I couldnt resist staring at it anymore so I plugged it in quick and had a few strums.. with my Studio with the Burstbucker Pros the thing drives at 4 on the vol ?

Cant wait to take it to practice!

Yup. That's about right. And about 5ish for single-coils.

Seller said it was a '67, not that it makes any difference whatsoever really but it does have '69 written on the inside. Was wondernig which circuit it was so I snapped the pic for one of the circuit gurus to try ID ?

It's a '69.It's my old amp! I sold it to MattyD, who did the trade with you. I kept it stock by recapped it with Sprague Atoms (including the filter caps, and put on a replacement cap cover, which was missing when I got it), cleaned it up, but left it original other than replacing the resistors on the output tubes as well as putting in a pair of matched JJ 6L6's.

Those additional resistors from Pin 8 to ground are so you can easily bias the amp with the cathode resistor method with a 1 ohm resistor, that way you can set your DMM to millivolts and measure the voltage across it to determining your current draw, it will deviate slightly from the plate current, but close enough to set operational BIAS and safer/easier as there is no HV involved.

It's a great amp and will serve you well.

+1 although this one has a simpler hum balance circuit that is more along the lines of an AA165.

So managed to couple together the speakers and drag it off to band practice last night ?

I didnt even use my pedalboard, didnt need it. With the guitar vol on about 8 and the amp on 4 you get a nice dirty break up which I used most of the time. Dont really have much clean headroom, for our cleaner songs I had to roll off on the guitar volume to about 2 and its still gritty ?

I'd change the input then, sounds like you are hitting the amp too hard as it is more than capable of lovely glassy clean tones with good headroom, but the amp breaking up at around 4 on the amp sounds right though.

Myt bassman 10 is clean up until about 7, and then it does not really distort just gets ALOT more bass and body...
I do use single coils though... would be an issue.......

Are you referring to using the other input on the normal channel? I havent really experimented with it but on the first channel anything from 3 isnt 'clean'
