Wow that's a nice clean tone! I like your panel/knob design and placement 8)
Slightly off topic - you seem to use toroidal transformers in the 120W amp on your website. Is this the hi-fi background coming in or do you have another reason for using them? I never thought the reduced electromagnetic interference would be noticeable with guitar amps.
I used to use toroidal mains transformers, but don't really find the benefits of them except paying more and them drawing too much startup current ?
I actually like the look of E/I transformers. I went with the toroidal tranny on that yellow head because it was/is a high gain monster and I was just ensuring the lowest noise levels. That thing is loud!!! Anton at music connection couldn't believe it was 120watts..... he said his teeth hurt playing it ? I think we got the master to quarter.
The amp in the vid has E/I trannys. Mains, choke, output and reverb. It gets close to metal but the owner (Jaime Negrao) plays covers in a blues/rock band and doesn't tread that territory.
The video says the amp uses two EL84s in the power section with an output of 60 watt. Is this correct? Or should it have read EL34? Thought the maximum rating for an EL84 is in the region of 10-15watt? I don't know much so excuse me if I got this wrong.
Don't know if I understand the question correctly. Do you mean on this amp? It has a 2 stage clean, a 3 stage drive, and a 4 stage boost.
This amp was tamed a bit as the owner is a blues/rock player but in the hands of metal player (Mike van Gas) it goes into that territory.
The valve driven reverb on this amp tames it a bit too.
hi again,
Just been sent another clip of the same amp by it owner. He wanted to post some more on a shorter clip.
Its nice in the fact that he's titled the sounds now.
