It seems that Len Goodman has to assume the rule of grumpy stick-in-the-mud for the American version of the show. Moral of the story: you need a grumpy judge or two, somebody to enforce standards.
Last night he came out with a real gem when confronted with a dance that was supposed to be a jive but wasn't. "What it said on the label wasn't in the tin."
Nice dance, but not the dance that was requested. The other two judges went singe merde, Len knew that it was all drama and no jive, marked 'em down, got booed and, as a gentleman does, suffered the ignorance of the hoi polloi with a little smile.
