yeah wow what a result today .no wickets lost by SL i wonder if anyone made a lot of money betting that england would NOT get a wicket in the innings ..... makes one think........... cos winning by 10 wickets is too rare in a quarterfinal of world cup ........... and against england ....... mmmmmmmmm i wonder what that prediction was worth ......anybody know the odds of SL winning by 10 wickets
I doubt you'd get such odds. In an ODI a team can only win by a number of wickets if they bat 2nd. So the wager would have to take into account which captain wins the toss and what they'll decide to do. It is possible to consider what a toss-winning captain is likely to do (though that's not infallible) but you'd need a contact at the ground to make that work for you as it would depend on the strip to be used for the match. But you still don't know which way the toss will go.
In India and Pakistan the bookmakers will give you odds on any bet you like...you imagine it and they'll take the bet.
For example (Pakistan players) bet on when they'll bowl a "no ball"...like the 3rd ball of my 4th over. ?
That actually wasn't a bet. In fact the guy who set it up wasn't even a bookie. It was a way of demonstrating that certain players within the team could be bought.
Fixing a cricket match - which I think it what's being hinted at in this thread - is quite a difficult thing to do. There's too many things that can go wrong, too many things that have to come together for it to work out. Safer, easier, simpler to fix an event within the match, like a key batsman going out for less than 20.
You can't bribe players to excel, only to under perform.
Bookmaking is very severely restricted in India and illegal in Pakistan. There is no legal way to place a bet on a cricket match in either country. That doesn't mean that it doesn't go on, we know that it does, but it does mean that it's not like the UK where you can walk down to the bookie shop on the corner and ask the odds on Prince Charles having kippers for breakfast or whatever it is you think is worth a flutter.
