Wouldn't it be a good idea to have a list up of the services forum members offer? I've seen that a couple members are into photography and I'm constantly looking for photographers to use across the country... It could possibly be like a 'workplace classifieds' for forum members looking for particular services/skills/etc, etc, and could even be a sticky if Alan or the mods think its valuable.

It would be a nice way of helping fellow guitarists out. What do you think? :-\
I'd be willing, but as it would be at least partly off-topic, I'd want to limit posts to ones I filter/approve. Let's see what the other members say...

I think it's a great idea... but I think entry onto the list should be dependant upon the number of posts the member has posted, otherwise you'll get a bunch of people riding off the back of the site. i.e this should be a reward for those members who actively participate in the forum.

I started a "what's your day job" thread a while back in off-topic somewhere. Tons of different skills/services there
Not wanting to be obstructive here but cant whoever just put whatever in the signature area? A while back there was some serious noise here that people didnt want anything but music stuff sold in the classifieds. Now we going to do some human trafficking?

"Human trafficking," resource sharing, whatever you want to call it... the idea was that rather than give work to some random person found on the internet, why not first have a look on the forum to see if someone is a plumber/carpenter/lawyer etc. But hey, if you dont want to participate just say so and we can either not include you or dispense with the whole idea if nobody is keen.
How about a commercial section with two separate sections: one for active forum members offering services and one for guitar related services maintained by other forum members much like the listings we already have?

                        Ja, I'm leaning towards this.
How about the person needing the services posts a topic in the Off lounge:"Anyone on here good with blocked drains?"
What if your service is importing Gibson guitars? Or Tokai guitars? Or having a store that sells instruments? etc, etc. I foresee issues ...

I think Jack Flash Jr. is onto something with his suggestion.

You could use the forum software to conduct a vote. Come up with a couple of options and then allow only a certain level of member or above to vote (so that you have the existing community decide how they would like things done) only for a short period. That way it's demoratic and people can't complain because it's the larger true GFSA community's decision.

                              This works already, I think. Sean posted with his laptop problem and got lots of help in short notice from many folks. So +1 here;
On reflection, I'm leaning against it now. As mentioned, if you need something specific, ask in the off-topic lounge. Has been done successfully before and will be less of a headache to maintain.

@Norio/Ray - I don't allow off-topic (especially links) in signatures as the most common method the spammers/bots use to spam the forum is "me too" posts with spam oriented sigs/links.

Well, this is a guitar forum so generally people would know this anyways and you'd be preaching to the converted.

That's cool - whatever you decide. Just thought it would be a resource which could boost the businesses of those forum members not in the music industry
                                    Alan, *thumbs up*

Giggsy, we're not really in the business of boosting the businesses of those forum members not in the music industry. I have nothing against those posts but I feel that dedicating a board to it is giving it more weight than it deserves on a guitar forum.
Cool. Like I said, it was just an idea to help those running their own businesses in these tough times to maybe network and, where applicable, help other forum members out.
