That guitar looks great (hey Tonedef, after playing for a few mere months you now own a better guitar than me LOL. Now go practice!!). Classy looks, like a good Les Paul, nice cutaways for fret access AND you have coil split on the tone knob. Nice! I don't think you'd need to change the pickups just yet. Give it a year or two. Get a good amp first.

Congrats on your M600 (and your cats.)

I've recently started buying some second hand Cort guitars as backup to my main guitars and I absolutely love them. I've picked up one or three including cases each for less than a dimarzio pup.... Dis nie reg nie... I've grown into having a lot of respect for Cort guitars. A higher end model such as your M600 must certainly keep you smiling if I use my mid end models as reference...

So I've been spending a lot of time with my two babies, and there are some striking differences. Some guits are definitely more or less ? equal than others.

The strat is way more comfortable to sit with for long hours. It's definitely going to be my practice guit most of the time. The bevel on the top back arch is a lot more comfortable than the hard edge on the cort, it digs into the crook of my elbow and makes my arm ache after a while. I'm sure it won't be a problem standing up, but I'm still putting in a lot of visual concentration into what my fingers are doing, and doing that while standing would turn me into Quasimodo in short order.

The strat has a special, undefinable feel and tone that I'm only starting to appreciate now that I have the Cort. It resonates more and has a more tenorous timbre to it than the Cort. The Cort is all about cleans, precision and a gentle touch. That's not to say it can't push out awesome rocking vibes - with the 3-way selector and coil split it's very versatile, and the range of basic tone is much more varied than the strat's.

The volume pot on the Cort has also unlocked a world of tones for me. Whereas the strat's volume knob doesn't change the sound all that much (just the volume level), the Cort is completely different. The strat's pot is almost pure volume whereas the Cort's dials in distortion. It's a major difference. Cleans on the Cort are just a knob turn away without the volume being attenuated too much, whereas with the strat I'm left fiddling with the pedal to get nice cleans. I'm not sure why it works this way, but it's something I'd like to change on the strat if possible.

The Cort's hard tail bridge and slightly lower frets makes vibrato effects on the neck a bit harder - the effect is not as pronounced as on the strat, but on the other hand the frets are ever-so-slightly more compressed, which makes it easier for my novice fingers to reach notes.

As for tuning stability - I've not had to tweak the Cort even once since Tuesday. Every string is spot on whenever I pick it up. The strat isn't at all bad, but it's affected by temperature a lot more.

The cort's knobs and switches are pure butter, whereas the cheap kak on the strat is like an Oshkosh gearbox. Those are gonna get dumped soon.

owning more than one guitar is like opening pandora's box...... cos now you see the subtle differences between guitars...... and yeah both intruments can be top class but they will all be different in subtle ways ......... now when you buy the third one ? that too will be a hint different and so on and so on ...GAS is a wicked curse ......

? so you now have 2 great electrics now all you need is a small uke type guitar .. i believe TOMS is virtually giving them away ? (inside joke)

I am really enjoying that axe.

I actually have something like that laying in a dusty corner at home, not quite as petite as the bargain you scored, it's more like a kid's accoustic. It needs a lot of work though, and so I haven't tried out the neck for size and whatnot. I'm tempted to put steel strings on it, seeing as I haven't chucked my old EB 10's.
