This whole thread has been a major lol...
Seeing as we're guitarists though, I just wanted to mention that earlier some spoke of a 777 post and it reminded me of strictly 7 guitars ?
A bit off topic I know, but they specialise in 7 strings for metal basically so I figured I'd just be a nerd and throw that in here ?
Also the Maloik is a bit silly, I'm not much of a metalhead anymore but even when I was I don't think I would care much for displaying it on the forum I frequent. With online communities it really does work out better to try and remain as neutral as possible with regards to musical preference.
I'm a member on an international forum who's name I won't mention and they don't have rules regarding religious or political posts so there are often some very heated and non-PG debates going on there, I find them entertaining however I don't doubt that some may find it offensive. Also it's almost no secret that the more technical forms of metal (tech-death, djent, prog) all have free rain there and often people are shot down for trying to mention other forms of music. I don't really mind any of this because what the forum has turned into is primarily all along the veins of things I personally find interesting, however this is a really cool local forum and it's better that all of these varied opinions can find a home here.
We all try and follow the rules and it works out better because we learn more about fellow musicians we may actually see/jam with/talk to for real one day. We also get more of a sense as to what's happening in the local industry which is primarily where we all run. If this forum were to start doing things like adding the maloik to the banner then it would be sending out a message of exclusivity towards a certain clique which could ruin the variation we have on here.
I've found new bands and artists and formed new opinions etc based on what I've read here and often from people who aren't the same type of musician that I am, this has helped me grow musically and possibly personally as well. When Mattias Eklundh came down here one of the things he said in the soundcheck was that if you want to make truly original metal then it's a good idea to listen to more than just metal, this forum has helped point me in the direction of some awesome non-metal stuff that I truly enjoy these days. It would be a shame IMO if we let the equality offered slip even slightly, it may be a deterrent to someone who could for the very least give you an interesting thought for the day ?
Also earlier someone mentioned that there were no truly honest forms of expression in music (or something along that line)...I'm just gonna go with Fusion on that one ? No popularity contest, just all about the brilliance of the music. If it were a popularity contest or an image thing I don't think Allan Holdsworth would be held up with such high regard ?
Now onto page 10! ?
