My first ever submission - hooray! I've uploaded my file to http://www.quickshare.co.za/files/j1g8aa89/V8_rageaudio.mp3.html (2m29s - +/- 3mb). The electro backing track was done by my friend "Gravity South" (aka Wayne) and I was asked to put a 'rock feel' over it. The last +/- 60secs feature the harmony guitars (if you don't feel like sitting through the track).

I'd like to enter as a intermediate player - but a complete noobie recording engineer - heh, the guitars sound a bit ugly compared to nicely produced electro track ::)

Here's my attempt at Baroque 'n Roll. Category A http://www.box.net/shared/xylgvxbmg7

http://www.box.net/shared/y0mv26umc7 I went acoustic for this one. A friend's Crafter Gae-27 tuned a semi-tone down, recorded through my G-dec. All crits and comments wellcome... :-[

This is my clip, I'm a beginner so I hope it's an acceptable entry, not sure if I followed the brief correctly but I tried :D (feel free to exclude it if it's not correct.) http://www.box.net/shared/l6rkv9qpeq

Here is my entry, although I must appologise. It isn't very Bach Rocky :-\ http://www.box.net/shared/0ryb3ujd1p
(old forum) Poll Results: Baroque and Roll

• V8 (I): 2
• PeteM (A): 15
• Chris77 (I): 1
• G-Man (B): 10
• FruitarGeek (I): 8
All the action is in the intermediate class. V8's entry is clearly illegal so I can't cast a vote for that. Rules is rules.

The two best entries (Pete's and Gman's) actually sound more medieval than baroque. Quite interesting. What does make things sound medieval? No blue notes is part of it.

I don't think anything sounds particularly "baroque", but that's not necessarily the point of the challenge. I thought there were timing issues in FruitarGeek's entry, but I think it's a better idea and closer to what is being looked for (even if, as he says, it's not very "bach"), so in that category FG gets my vote.

The A and B categories are no contest.
Uhm...

Sorry to ask probably the dumbest question...
But there is only 1 beginner and 1 advanced entry?!
Dont they win automatically?
For some reason I can't d/l any of the entries! >☹

Must be the bloody firewall again!

Yes. But if you think one of those is the best entry then still vote so the eventual overall winner has a better claim. I know that winning is not the main thing, but there can only be one and you want the right one.
Can I ask everybody a moerse favour, please? Can you please upload to quickshare in addition to box.net?

I managed to d/l V8's entry (nice work btw, n00b ?), but Box.net simply refuses to allow the d/l. It tunes me kak about "This user is not allowed direct downloads"

I listened to them just fine and have never had a problem with entries made available via box.net. So I think this is a firewall or user issue.
I'm sure you had no problems whatsoever. That doesn't help me, though ☹
Neva mind guys! IE cookie permission error it was. I used firefox and no probs.

Jislaaik! We're not even married yet and kyk hoe gaan jy aan.
Bwahahaha! ?

When are you gonna fix the toilet like I asked you months ago?

Anyway, making a decision is really hard.

Pete, you're an amazing guitarist, man. Just fantastic. Clearly the best entry, but I'm torn whether I should vote for what's clearly the best entry (by a country lightyear), or one of the others.

Great stuff guys. :applause: :applause: :applause:

PeteM - Great playing as ussual. Really really really(x1000) loved that! Man...... One day I want to sound like that :-[
G-Man - Simple but really catchy. Well done dude. I really enjoyed the little lead bit from about 40s. It added just the right feel at the right time.
Fruitargeek - You had me thinking WTF for the first few secs, but then the guitar came in and saved the day ? Good stuff man! I liked the rythm tone from 10sec onwards. What did you play with?
V8 - Ha! Good stuff man! A bit to much tecno for my personal taste, but really well executed. It must have taken you ages to get right, but it was worth it. Well done hey
I cant comment on the entries at the moment, other than to say i need to practice quite a bit more before i attempt something like this!!

You guys play well!

Will give my review and vote later when i can listen more critically!!
I need to get my ass in gear and get something down. You okes have lit a little fire.

I found it interesting that you consider my little piece more medieval than baroque, so I googled youtube and found this. Would you consider this medieval as well?

I haven't yet downloaded and listen to the entries. Will do so a little later.

The G-Man gets my vote! Well done, bro!

(Your entry was really cool, FG, but I have to vote for the underdog, you see ?)

Pete... you need to leave your plasma cannons at home man, this is an axe fight. ? I don't know whether to be utterly inspired or utterly demoralised ☹

Nice link... And i would consider those both medieval and baroque ish!
Both have similar overtones! imo of course!
Do we HAVE to vote for 3 people?

Sorry if im sounding stupid again!!! :-[

Not obviously so. I'd spot it as being Spanish but no more.

I suspect I've laid a trap for myself here. What the two pieces I referred to bought to my mind was the sort of tudorsh English music that gets appropriated by groups wanting to create cod medieval music - say Jethro Tull.

No. You can't vote for more than three though.
