Except that it doesn't correlate to anything else - the way IQ, as IceCreamMan correctly points out, does. Point is that this Lynn book is a very poor work that fails to demonstrate it's point through shoddy scholarship. So IQ correlates strongly with success in various ways within a given population. But this book tries to say that it can be used to predict national success but can't even demonstrate that there are differences in national IQ - due to very low standards of evidence.

If you're saying that people who can understand people do better than people who are more intelligent but can't, I can't disagree. But the problem with EQ as a measurable quantity is that it fails to have any predictive value - as you would expect it to if my first sentence is correct. So quite possibly EQ is not actually measuring what it purports to measure.

Not at an individual level of course. There are plenty of thick people with tons of loot (Prince Charles comes to mind) and plenty of geniuses without a pot to relieve themselves into. But at a population level it's an incredibly good predictor of a number of desirable life outcomes.

and what leads you to believe that Prince Charles is "thick"...????

i know i said i would not put my oar in this thread again but caaaannnnnotttt resist....

EQ is pretty much a pot of crap.... its some egalitarian ideal where one can "learn" behaviour in order to succeed...

Ppl with high IQ's (to a point) can pretty much learn eq anyway....

you will rarely find high eq with low iq although you will find extremely high iq wiht low eq...but regarding success high iq still wins the battle (to a point)

I think that a person with an extremely high IQ but no social skills or emotional problems is going to battle in the work place a hell of a lot more than a person with a low IQ but with a balanced "normal" outlook on life .
