Can anyone recomend a good software drum machine ?

bugger, just started reading the plug ins thread and see some are listed there... would still like your recomendations tho ?
I'm coming to grips with hydrogen at the moment. It's freeware and it's quite easy to use, I'm still messing with it as I'm a bit clueless when it comes to making good sounding drum tracks.
I'm using Impulse Tracker running under DOSbox. No, really! Only problem is all my samples are 8-bit.
@ G-Man Great piece of software thanks man, I think its a keeper and I can run it on my linux box

@Tonedef WIll give it a try this week ?

          yay! Another Linux user!!

Check out Ardour for recording and Jack Control and Jack Rack and Calf effects ? The only issue I have with recording on linux at the moment is that there isn't an enormous amount of VST plugins to use. Steinberg won't allow the distribution of their plugins and due to some licensing issues software are not allowed to be distributed for VST support. However, there is a way to compile Ardour yourself WITH VST support. OK, Enough geek talk, back to jamming...
Lol, i only use impulse tracker coz i like being an odd old fart, that and the fact that it has a special nostalgia for me and also because i know how to use it. There are much more modern, windows-based apps for tracking and sequencing, check out MadTracker. Nice, and free too.

              No worries ?
@ezitsman - thanks for the heads up , My day job involves RT Linux so I always have a Linux box at hand, still going to see who wins out to be my "music box" ?

@Tondef lol well one old fart to another I will tell you that new isnt always better...especially when it comes to software ☹
Yeah, i love impulse tracker but dosbox only supports soundblaster pro emulation, so no 16bit samples, which does make a big difference. Its awesome though for rapidly bashing together some percussion and other background sound.
