The Challenge February 2011

Renesongs · 2011-02-02T21:37:51+00:00

Baroque & Roll (formerly know as Bach Rock) The basic idea is a Rock piece that uses 2 or more melody lines that are played on top of each other. OK this doesn't have to be all that scary, on a simple level you compose a little melody (a riff of 2 or more bars long) and then write a bass line that goes with it but has fewer notes. From there you can get all experimental if you like and start adding another melody line or make the base line go in the opposite direction to the melody or make the second melody the same as the first but start it halfway into the first melody. Mainly experiment experiment and experiment some more. There are now three levels Beginner (B), Intermediate (I) and advanced (A) please mark your level clearly and PM it to me by Wed 23 Feb 2011 Additional information on the the competition rules can be found here. http://www.guitarforum.co.za/monthly-competition/weekly-competition-rules-and-info/

Tonedef wrote But that doesn't worry me, maybe the next challaansjh will call for something bluesy, I am gonna wrap up the beginner's tourney! It's mine! *evil laughter* ?

+1 for the "something bluesy" challenge.

I'll "demote" myself to beginner to give you some motivation ? Only reason why I think I'm intermediate, is not that I can play - is that I've been playing for a while, and I should be able to play!

Tonedef

How long is a "while", mate? ?

Renesongs

I just won't be able to do it in the single day we've got left

|I count 2 and a half Monday Tuesday and Wednesday.

To hack out a bass backing? Fuggedaboudit. It's hard enough to play the lead piece seamlessly, and I really cant think of how I'd make it complementary to the lead piece I can play without having it sound contrived.

I'll catch the next one! No prizes for guessing the style I want! ?

Tonedef, no point in waiting for a blues challenge. They are few and far between (altho I also always hope for one ? ). The point of these things are for us all to create and play something we won't usually do. So, in other words, just do it.

Tonedef

Oh, fo sho. I'm definitely gonna record it and post it regardless! It would just be lekker if there was a competition tie-in at the same time ?

Mines in. After quite a few frustrated evenings with a variety of electrics, I went for an acoustic yesterday and came up with an entry in about an hour of fiddling around. Go figure...
Not sure if it fits the brief, but thats what I've got so that's what I entered. :-[

Well my entry (beginner 8) ) is in, dunno if its any good or relevant but hey, its late and I'm tired. If I didn't do it tonight it would not have gotten done at all, which in hindsight might not have been a bad thing ?

Best of luck to you all.

Errrrrr, 1st picked a electric guitar up 17yrs ago... :-[ In that time I've had about 3yrs worth of lessons and concentrated on playing for about 5yrs.

Got distracted by bass, acoustic guitars, drums and song writing along the way.

Tonedef

Lol, today marks my 7 week anniversary since getting my axe. Bring it on, I'll have you in the beginner's compo! ?
