Suggestions for best SA players for Guitar DVD..

Sup? Some film industry friends of mine approached me with the idea of making a DVD about SA guitarists, it'll be a documentary/instructional thing. We have a pretty big short list of guitarists who we want to approach with the idea to see if they'd be interested. I don't want to mention names right now but I was hoping I could get some suggestions? We need about 5 guitarists of different genres and styles. We are looking for big names or bigg-ish names so that the guys can sell the DVD's at their gigs and to further sales, it'll hopefully help toward marketing SA as a music hub and to show the world that we have a musically rich culture that could stand up to any other. So please don't add things like "my buddy pete is pretty awesome, check him out". We have a ton of other ideas regarding the production but if anyone has anything to add please post it!

I've seen him do Steve Vai pieces in a guitar shop on acoustic back before he joined the nude girls.
He also plays amazing blues!
What u see on stage for his heavier shows is not a true reflection on the guys talent.

I agree. The three golden boys of Cape Town rock guitar have always been John Mair (The Sweat band), Nico Burger (All Night Radio/Slap 'n Tickle) and Andre Meyer (Factory/ Late Final). Of those three Andre is the soul remaing member of that exclusive club.

John Mair (RIP) was awesome...I remember seeing him solo with his old beaten up flying V in stellenbosch pubs (circa 1995) on numerous occasions.

I used a 1973 100Watt Marshall Super Lead modded with a master volume, MXR Micro Amp, 1964 modded Fender Strat to HSS with Kahler whammy bar, Duncan Distortion humbucker & dual Duncan Vintage Stack single coils. Also used my black 1976 LP Standard for one or two solos (Let it Rain) So it was basically just guitar into MXR booster into Marshall.

AND IT WAS LOUD! :?

I remember that Strat! I saw you guys in Stellenbosch at The Akker in 1988. That was a awesome sound! You used that Strat at the time, it was a seriously SRV type of suburst strat with most of the paint gone! I still asked you about the pickups, not that you will remember ?

Now that I've read all the posts above, I remember seeing you and Nico Burger together in a kick-ass blues/rock band on a farm just outside Stellenbosch. I think it was on Lesly Rae Dowling's farm, but I could be wrong.

You're very correct and the band was Slap 'n Tickle! PM me if you want more info. This isn't really the place to blow trumpets.

Don't just choose on guitar chops. Try to meet the guy or get personal references first. There's some I can think of who are lovely people, fab players and likely to be useless in a documentary system because they'll be uttering deeply philosophical things like "..... yeah man, the guitar..... well....... it's like.... like.... a GUITAR you know..... and I like really..... you know.... I DIG it man..... and yeah man ..... that's what it is....... oh? Playing it?.... well man, it's like the... you know... the SPIRIT man, gets into you and like..... it just, you know, HAPPENS man..... It's like Stephen Stills said to Crosby, y'know.... 'If you really mean it, it all comes round again.'..................................... That was like some heavy stuff right there man."

If you are doing a Dvd the stories behind the playing is just as important as the playing.
That is why I would vote for Anton Lamoore.
Even Andries Bezuidenhout( New Mean Mr Mustard front man) and Mark Beddingfiels (old Mean Mr Mustard front man) could be a nice guitar dual.

Strangely someone here mentioned Gerald Clark while to my thinking Henry Steel also previously of Delta Blue is the much better player....
