Riaan-Combrink I must say I was always a huge fan of Bright Blue's Ian Cohen. I loved the sort of 'open' (?) bass style he used on The Rising Tide album (still one of my favourite RSA discs) which was the perfect counter-point to Tom Fox's afro-infused guitar style on that album. Both just clicked and created this incredible sound -more 'vibe' - that sort of lilted tunes like the title track and Where would I go to to a level of - well - coolness beyond description. Memories of varsity, Tassenberg and being pelted with tomatoes by anti-ECC counter-protesters at Stellenbosch University in the late-1980s in the pouring rain are floated on just those two base-lines by Ian. Erm ... nostalgia alert. Over and out :-[
LouisNeilson Bahiti Khumalo need not even be mentioned! The man is too good In terms of FAVOURITE, I've always loved Denholm Harding's playing (from Just Jinjer). It's pretty much what got me into study Bass further, instead of it just being a hobby
make-and-do MoreCowBell wrote Brydon Bolton (upright bass - don't know what he's playing in at the mo) +1 for Mr Brydon Bolton. Benguela played a few gigs end of last year in Cape Town (after a long hiatus). Awesome improv tunes. Hipnotic basslines
