This has probably come up before......

But who is the best bass player in Hard rock/Heavy metal? :-\

    All good...

I'd like to add to the list:

    Les Claypool
    John Myung, and
    Cliff Burton

Too difficult to pick an absolute favourite for me.

Flea will always be one of my favs.

But I'd have to say the one that I enjoy the most...............Steve Harris
          Agree with all the above.

My fave: Jeroen Thesseling - Obscura, Pestilence. Six string Warwick fretless.
            Bob Daisley.

Depending on your definitions John Glascock and Dave Pegg.
no one plays bass quite like Lemmy

Steve Harris is a bass god
              John paul jones
Much as I love Glasscock, Jones, Pegg and Entwhistle (and lets not forget my favourite player, Tony Levin), I'd hesitate to put them under hard rock/metal.
Geezer Butler - Back Sabbath + Heaven and Hell
Hard Rock/Metal? For me there is only ONE guy that kills across all the bases (basses) and that's Rob Trujillo... not for his work with Metallica or Ozzy but for the most underrated band of all time Suicidal Tendencies. His Infectious Grooves stuff is killer too. He is really good at melodic bass but here are some trad examples... I hesitate to post clips because youtube + pc speakers = poor bass sound but try these out:

Yea Trujillo kicks, great guitarist as well.
Did you see him at the Coke Fest in Centurion ?
My dad reckons he was great!
Unfortunately did not get to see him, out of the country... ☹
The clip I was trying to post was:

                          a month later

Flea is good, but not really a heavy metal player? Even though he has "punk influences" that doesn't really qualify him

Billy Sheehan is more proper ROCK, same goes for players like Entwistle (as Alan mentioned)

I personally like Cliff Williams quite a lot... Arguably not the most intricate lines ? but just a solid groove machine~
Victor Wooten can kick some ass.
