  • Hey there people! From Guitar Hero to uhm.... Real Guitar :)

Hi there,

So, after playing XBOX guitar hero for ages the time has come to start playing for real. Thing is this, I played before in 1992, for a bit. Had a biking accident and damaged my left hand quite bad and this made me battle moving my fingers. The bones in my hand grew on skew so my ring finger bends a bit inward towards my middle finger. Sold the guitar and thought I wont ever play again.

Well thanks to Guitar hero, I managed to improve my hand skills and it seems to be working ok-ish. This made me decide to go out and get another guitar.
I love old school metal like Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Pantera, Judas Priest, Van Halen, Rammstein etc etc. So I was looking for that type of sound and went to pick up a few goodies.

Being full of crap I wanted an explorer shape, but bought a V instead as this was my 2nd choice. I figured, if I can't play it, at least it will look nice ?
Here is my stuff:
Cort VX-4V (white and black)

Fender FM212R Amp

Ibanez IBZ10G Amp (for when wife is home ? )

And Pedals:
Boss Metal Zone MT-2
Boss Metal Zone MT-2 (with Rober Keeley Mod)
Boss Metal Core ML-2
Hardwire TL-2
Boss Delay DD-3
Zoom G1X

Now to get playing.....
Welcome to the forum and back into the fold! Awesome (fearsome!) set up...
      Nice toys.
Django Reinhardt lost a finger on his left hand in a fire in his caravan and had to learn to play all over again - so there's hope for you. ?

      Welcome and enjoy the ride.
Thanks guys. Definately going to be looking for advice in the near future!

OK, I have that on my right hand (soccer injury), which causes problems with finger picking every now and then.

Not that I'm keeping Eric Clapton awake at nights, but, as your own experience shows there is guitar playing life after a hand injury.

          Welcome. Enjoy.
Django had two wrecked fingers and could play anyone on this forum to a standstill.

Good to hear guitar hero is being useful to guitar playing. The more often you practise, the sooner you'll overcome these issues.
I've never tried guitar hero, does being able to play the songs on a real guitar help at all with guitar hero?
Welcome Cerealkilla ...ditto here bike accident ....stopped playing ....25 years later decide to start again..... still dont have all the feeling but what the hell ....i enjoy it , it destresses me and i love playing ..

Actionarne ,i only played guitar hero once an compared to another newbie that evening i thought playing real guitar certainly helped a lot with guitar hero as neurological pathways already exist for playing the real guitar....after one evening i was plaing on the hard level and he was still on easy level...
Welcome to the forum CerealKilla, sorry to hear about the bike accident. I am still riding occasionally but decided it was time for a new hobby.

Tony Iommi (sp?) lost the tips of the fingers on his right hand while he was still a factory worker and before Sabbath got famous. He plays left handed and had to make little plastic covers for his right fingers, he also detuned his guitar so he was able to play again and look at the sound he created. ?

Thanks for all the encouragement. As for guitar hero, if you can play guitar im sure you will have an advantage as you will be used to playing in time and strumming especially on hard and expert will come naturally. Cords are then made up by button combinations. Also, easier if you can play guitar.

I can tell you that it is the best game for parties and get togethers. I have the band kit consisting of drums, 2 x guitars and a mic. When friends come over we all play and even someone that has never played can have huge amounts of fun. The song selections are great and if you into metal then GH Metallica, Van Halen and Warriors of rock is a must.
                      Welcome to the forum!
Glad you made the switch from GH to REAL GUITAR!!!!
