  • Delay - Best Bang for Buck?

I'm starting guitar lessons again soon and I hate playing without delay! What's the best bang for buck, simple delay stompbox I could get. Brand is not important, a million features is not important. Just a commonly used range of delay tempos that sound decent for practise (not gigging) is fine. So yes, Behringer will do if it happens to be a good cheapie stompbox.

Ideas? Ideally, R300-R400 second-hand is what I'm looking for. (Or new if you get stompboxes that cheap)
If you're aiming for R300 to R400, a second hand Boss DD3 will prob be just right.

    Don't you have a GT-8?
if you want REAL bang for buck, get this http://cgi.ebay.com/DANELECTRO-D-4-FAB-SLAP-ECHO-GUITAR-PEDAL-D4-NEW-/330504065815?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item4cf393d317

and mod it according to the info on this forum: http://experimentalistsanonymous.com/board/index.php?topic=1094

      total cost: about R200.

i've just got mine from an ebay order and i'm gonna do the mods straight after i finish my amp. it sounds pretty awesome as it is though, have to admit. great reviews on it too.

apparently it does some amazing things wrt feedback once its been modded.

+1, EZ. Norio, don't you already have a GT-8? Why buy a separate box?
Wow, I want one! A Danelectro pedal that is.
I been stalking these Danelectros for awhile but read on some other spots that they are plenty flimsy. But I dont know so tell us what are they flimsy?
I have owned a Boss DD6 which was a great little unit. I'm afraid I can't remember what I bought it for though but am sure it was decent. Joe Bonamassa (the ultimate Les Paul wielding blues player at the moment in my opinion) used a Boss delay so they aren't half bad!

For interest sake, the current delay I'm using is the Deluxe Memory Man by Electro-Harmonix and WOW with a little reverb on a clean tone this pedal will blow your mind. It sounds like an old school Tape delay and is very easy to operate (except it doesn't have a tap tempo which would have been nice). I imported mine from proguitarshop.com though so worked out a bit expensive but will never part with it (and I don't often say that about pedals).

Two must see awesome vids to see out of interest are these! They are rundowns of Joe's rig! I think anybody who plays will drool ALL OVER their keyboard at this Rig! it is BEAUTIFUL!!!! ☹

Now listen to him play a little....

What I would do to see him Live!!!!!!!
This is mainly to keep my rig for lessons and jamming very very light. I hate the idea of lugging my GT-8 around for guitar lessons and jams. I've got a great DS-2 which gives me uber sexy distortion, now I just need something simple for a bit of delay and I'm sorted.

ie: I need something for a quick fix. Easy to pack, can just chuck it in my tog bag and go. Second hand DD3 sounds good. Danelectro looks too DIY-e for me ?
hmm, if this was a couple of weeks ago i had a dd3 you could have taken.. want meant to be i guess :-[
Norio.... I have a few pedal cases nearly finished that will house a GT8 and power supply comfortably so that you don't have to worry about lugging it around in a tog bag or under your arm ?

Give me a shout if you're interested. I recentlly hooked Craig Cannon up with one and as far as I can tell he's pretty stoked with it.

On the delay note... I use a DD20 and it rocks BUT I've also got an Ibanez DE-7 which rocks aswell. Also cant go wrong with the Boss DD's. Most of my pedals on my board are Boss. They do the trick for me ?

                    Rock n Roll 8)
That Ibanez DE7 is pretty cool. I had one as well.

Skywalker what is the deal on the GT8 case?
