Fixed. Cleaned contacts, and after a bit of trial and error with screwing in different angles it finally works now. ?
- I recently acquired a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe in a trade.. Today to be exact. The jewel light is no longer working, the guy said he tried putting a lamp in and it works sometimes (but sometimes flickers with vibration from the speaker) - He said that the exact lamp wasn't available in SA. Is this true? and is there anywhere I can get a viable alternative or preferably the real thing?
TIA. - Thanks for all the replies guys ? I ended up giving in to a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe... ? ? ? ?
- I know that when you leave the reverb up when switching the amp on, there is an audible popping sound... Try switching it on with the reverb and volume all the way down, then let it warm up for about a minute and then try. It should be fine... Atleast that's what I've heard.
- I may be leaning towards the Albion TCT35... They might be a better bet, and considering my close friend's dad has some kind of contact.. He gets them in for real cheap. Will inquire. Has anyone here had any experience with these? and how do they compare to the Blues JNR and Classic 30 ?
BTW Thought I'd just add: My budget is ~5000 - Thanks for all the replies guys. ? the classic 50 was quite out of the way anyway. So this weekend I'll take a look at the Classic 30 that is for sale close to where I stay. I will still try play a 50 and see if I really need the bright and other functions. I will also make sure to re-visit that blues junior tweed once again just to make sure. Although I've noticed that second hand tweed blues juniors are very hard to find... Keep the advice rolling in ?
- Hi all,
I'm looking to get my first tube amp. I play a CV50's Stratocaster. I play mostly blues.. Mainly Hendrix, and a lot of David Gilmour (pink floyd) stuff. I practice in my study, where I can play fairly loud if I want - I usually keep my cube 30x at around 1/2 to 3/4 volume when practicing. But I would like to gig and play medium venues.
I've narrowed my search to a second hand Fender Blues Junior OR a Peavey Classic 30 OR a Peavey Classic 50 1/12
I played a Blues Junior Tweed version with the upgraded speaker, and the clean channel was SWEET. I really liked the sparkly tones.
I did some research, and almost everyone recommends the PV classic 30/50 over the Blues Junior. Although I have yet to play the classic 30. As far as cleans I know the PV is more like a Bassman, and the Fender Blues Junior more like a blackface fender. As to the whole blackface vs tweed debate, I really love the blackface shimmering sparkly cleans. But I also really like the warm tweed tone.
After all the research i'm really leaning towards the PV Classic. And would like to know whether to go for the 30 watt or the 50 watt (twin) - The 50 watt seems like a much better investment with having more features (bright channel, presence, standby switch, cooling fan for tubes, and probably most importantly - the master volume control.) But I'm really scared that I will have to crank the 50 too high to get the sweet tube tone i'm looking for. But for now, any tube sounds better than my roland to my ears, even the Marshall MA50c, which is somewhat stale sounding compared to the other tube amps I've played.
Thoughts and suggestions welcome ?
Thanks in advance ? - I played a Blues Junior Tweed edition the other day in the shop. Keep in mind the tweed edition has an upgraded speaker.
The cleans were sweet, the overdrive was pretty good aswell. I played my CV50's strat through it. I was considering it, and still am. But I'm sort of leaning towards the Peavey Classic 30. - Thanks for the replies!
Yes we will be seeking gigs out and don't expect to be fed from a plate ? ?
Just want some tips and maybe some venues where we can enquire and question about possibly playing there..
Right! Sorry I forgot to mention, we play anything blues, rock, pop, country, folk, acoustic, and even metal (if need be)
Thanks ? - We're 17 and have both matured as guitar players over the past several years and we love to jam together. My mate is who I'd definately call an advanced player and he's a great vocalist aswell. I consider myself somewhat intermediate.. But we've reached the point where we both want bigger and better gear that we cannot pay for quite yet.. Also we're at the age where we'd like to start working small jobs just to fund the wallet...
Both of us loving music and performing together we thought we should start gigging.. We have all the decent equipment.. But just need a venue and some tips about how to get on the scene somewhat. We're in the centurion-pretoria area and would love to get a gig somewhere just to earn a small ammount of money.
Thanks in advance! ? - Squier Classic Vibe Series Stratocaster.
I have the CV 50's, and I will tell you it's one of the best sounding guitars I've ever played. - The problem here might be your guitar... I only play blues on my les paul or strat... Sharp & Pointy guitars are great for metal but they seem to fall at blues..
Best bet is to use the Tweed setting for blues ?
My 2 Cents about the Roland Cube 30x:
I play my 2 Guitars (Squier Classic Vibe 50's Stratocaster & an Ibanez Art-120 les paul body) through the Roland Cube 30x.
Basic Summary:
Amazing Tones for the Strat, I can dial in the Black Panel model, add some reverb and get a beautiful clean strat bell-like sound (With the Tightness of the fender twin reverb). Then I can switch over to the Fender Tweed model, and put on some delay with a dash of phaser, and voila I have my pink Floyd "Breathe in the Air" sound. Then I can switch to the Classic Stack model, add quite a bit of reverb, and low gain (just at the breaking up point to give some crunch), turn up the mids a bit, flick the switch on my Strat to the 2nd Position (Bridge+Middle) and there you have a beautiful Jimi Hendrix "Little Wing" tone. (Much to my surprise the Classic Stack which is modelled on a Marshall JCM100 gave me the best little wing tone)
For the little bits of Metal I still play, when I ever use my pedal (MT-2 Metalzone by Boss) I usually avoid using the normal clean channel (It really is very bland to my ears), I usually opt to use the pedal through the Fender Tweed amp model (on low gain) to get a real nice sound.
The only thing I don't like on this amp is the Clean channel, it really isn't my style. I've tried other Roland Products like the Boss BR-864 which has the COSM model of the JC-120 Clean, and I didn't like that either, so all together I don't think it's the amps fault, it's what it's modelled on, the Jazz Chorus 120 just isn't a very nice sounding clean sound to my ears.
After all, the sky is the limit with this amp.
Watch the EQ! It will make / break your tone! Play around alot, and watchout when using High Output pickups, the Clean channel will sound really crunchy.
I used to use a Crate FW15r, after I got the Roland Cube 30x, i didn't like the Clean channel, and I wasn't adventurous enough to explore the other tones, instead I prefered the clean sound of the Crate. But after the Crate gave me some technical issues, I started using the Cube 30x, at the time I had gained experience both in the Equipment and Playing aspect, So I was able to summon the courage to explore the other amp sounds and was blown away. Don't make the mistake I did, Don't cry at the boring sounding JC-120 clean sound, try out the clean sound of the Fender Tweed amp model (To get the clean sound just put the gain at 9 o' clock.)
