  • Thanks Norman, I contacted him. Unfortunately he is selling the original Crunch Box, I would like the Super version.

Also, contacted Marshall Music and they said that they can acquire MI Audio products on request.
    • G'day peeps,

I am looking to get my hands on a MI Audio Super Crunch Box. First or Second hand.

Where would I be able to order a unit in SA? And what are their going for these days? I saw an old post that mentions Peter(phanmer@mweb.co.za), is he still the guy to call? Are there alternative distributor/shops?

Also if anyone has one for sale second hand, please let me know.

I am in Cape Town, so will need it ship if can.

      Thanks guys ?
      • Really NEED that Carbon Copy! don't have moola, would have to sell my DD-6 first
        • Thanks for the replies guys, big help!!!

Last night I went and checked out this band called The Great Apes. One guitarist was running a Schecter Corsair -> Boss Turbo Distortion -> AC15 and the other guitarist was running Tele (standard, I think) -> EHX Big Muff -> Classic 30

I got to say, both sounded very good, so I guess I will just have to go and try those 2 out then.

We certainly need to start a Blackout Effectors club, still need to add a Whetstone to my chain. And then there is this

          Black Arts Toneworks Pharaoh Fuzz

I've owned an AC15, and a good friend had a Classic 30. The Vox sounded quite a lot better to me but I play more rock oriented stuff.

To be honest, it'll be best for you to test them out yourself, sounds like you have a specific sound in mind ?

Just remember that bright cap, can really change how a fuzz sounds IMO.
Any under 10K Fenders recommendations? So far the AC15 looks good, not to pricey, wish I had the moola for a nice Orange or Dr Z combo, but one can only dream haha. Will watch for the bright cap you are talking about.
            • MikeM wrote: Ac30 is going to be WAY too loud.

However one thing to consider is that pretty much all of those amps won't be totally happy with fuzzes. The bright cap makes the treble quite harsh.

I'd personally look at the AC15 or Deluxe Reverb (although this is over R10k) first.
AC30: I was also thinking that it might be to loud, and its a 2x12, was leaning more to 1x12 or 1x10 for portability. As for the Fender amps, I am very skeptical, seeing as that I am gonna be playing stoner/sludge.

The AC15 looks the most promising so far. The Classic 30's features looks nice, ever tried one?
              • Hi guys/gals,

I like using a lot of different distortion and fuzz stompboxes; MXR Wylde OD, Backout Effectors Musket & Mantra, EHX Metal Muff, Hardwire Valve Distortion, and hopefull many more soon ?. So I started looking around for the "best" small (50watts and under ? ) all valve combo that could handle these type of pedals. The vibe I was going for is Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Mastodon, Baroness, but with the odd Pink Floyd In The Flesh here and there ? . So basically Classic/Hard Rock. I'll be playing a Les Paul and a Strat mostly.

The amps I were considering so far are (only from internet research and actually in preferable order):
                Peavey Classic 30
                Vox AC15
                Vox AC30
                Fender Deluxe Reverb
                Fender Deluxe Hot Rod

I could go and test some of these amps in the shop, but I don't have the time, so I just want to eliminate some of them. So what are your experiences and thoughts about these amps, any other suggestions. Sadly I am on a tight budged of under 10K ☹

                Thanks in advance!
                • Ok, so I just ordered my valves via take2. 4x T-12AX7-S-JJ and 1x T-EL34-JJ-MPB, paid R1075 for them, hopefully they will get here in one piece ?
                  • ezietsman wrote: For a darker tone the G12H30s will be better than the Vintage30s, those are VERY bright. I think a Vintage30 + G12H30 combo may be nice too. The 2x12 G12H30 would be cool as long as you're not planning on running your amp flat out. That TSL602 will put out more than 60 watts run flatout and I'm sure the G12H30s will blow eventually. Even having a G12H30 + V30 combo may blow (The G12H) if you run it flat out.
Sorry, I don't really understand ??? So what will the wattage be for my cab if I combine the two, 90watt or 60watt? And taking into account what you said, wouldn't a cranked 100watt head running into a 4x12 25watt Greenback loaded cab blow the speakers?

here a nice test of the 2 speakers on youtube:
                    • Hi Guys,

I know this has been discussed before (for a Vintage 30 and Greenback):
                      http://www.guitarforum.co.za/amps-speakers-and-valves/marshall-jcm2000-tsl-602-speaker-replacement/
but I don't want to revive a old thread, and its for a Vintage 30 and 25 Greenback config.

So I also want to upgrade my 60watt TSL602's speakers with Celestions. The current stock configuration is 2 x 80watt 12" 8ohm Wolverine speakers connected in series.

The replacement drivers I was looking at was the 60watt Celestion Vintage 30 and the 30watt Celestion G12H30, either in respective pairs or even a combination of the two. Keeping in mind that I am looking for a nice dark tone, ala Mastodon, Baroness, even Heaven And Hell.

Now I don't know anything about wattages and whatnot, how would these 3 configurations work?
                      1. 2 x 60watt Vintage 30
                      2. 2x 30watt G12H30
                      3. 1x 60watt Vintage 30 + 1x 30watt G12H30

                      Thanks in advance ?

If the fuse blows without the valves in, take it to Graeme or Karel Mars for repair before fitting the new valves.

I dunno - shops used to stock valves, but last time I was in Bothner's they said that their repair guy kept them all in the workshop these days, which is ridiculous - most valves are easily replaced (except power valves in some adjustable-bias amps) and they are actually something that you should carry spares of to gigs.
Thanks Alan, I will try that, wouldn't do me much good if I refit all the valves and the fuse still goes. I checked the valves last night for cracks, but couldn't find any.

Yeah I was at Bothners last week and I got the same answer, and they mostly just had EHX, Marshall and Solvtek valves on their list. I would like to try out JJ Tesla as I only heard good things about them.
                        • vic wrote: Question is why did that fuse blow? Fuses blow if something is wrong with the electronics. Now it could be that the valve or its socket caused the blow out...so rather get it checked out first ....My 2 c
Wel its only the HT fuse that blew, and to quote from the manual:
"This fuse protects your amp in the case of a fault occurring with any of the high voltage circuitry. The usual reason for this to blow is when an output valve has become faulty."

The Mains fuse is still fine, I just want to stock up on parts while I am at it. Hopefully a complete valve swap will resolve the issue why the HT fuse blew in the first place. ???

Thanks for the info Nick, a big help, luckily Boston is closeby! I was thinking of even ordering the valves via Take2

Thats the prices with shipping included. If that fails, I will make contact with Graeme.
                            • Hi guys,

I am in Durbanville and got a Marshall TSL602 thats in need of a repair. From what I could figure out its needs a valve and fuse replacement.

The repair I would realy like to do myself, but I don't know where in the area I can get hold of the fuses (Mains Fuse TI6AC - 230V and H.T. Fuse T500mAL) and valves (12ax7 and EL34) needed. Do guys know of a shop or someone in the Durbanville/Cape Town area where I can get these items?

Also if I am to finally give up on the project where can I find someone to repair my amp at a reasonable price?

                              Thanks in advance guys
