- Hi everyone...
We've been trying to find a decent institution to record the songs we've put our harts and souls in for the last few months, and every time we find something (or someone for that matter) they charge through the sky, and although we know that the quality depends on the cash, we're just not willing to pay R900 per song that sounds as if it has been recorded through a cellphone. We are wondering if someone with a reasonable amount of knowledge concerning recording and production would be willing to record us and maybe help us sort out a demo of some kind. We're more than willing to pay a reasonable price, we've got lots of time and we're really dedicated, so it would be greatly appreciated if ANYONE, regardless of experience, would help us out... We're situated in the Cape Town area, but we're willing to travel anywhere for a good product. We play jazzy-rock, and we're rather tight as well so no time would go wasted with sorting out timing issues and so forth. Thanks a lot... ? - Hey Allan, I've noticed that there's no guitaramps? ? Do you use anything?
- ...been a fan of the Amott's (Michael actually has a younger brother, Chris, that does all the insane shredding on the older albums) way before I even touched a guitar. So oneday I phoned Music Connection in the Cape, and asked around about the LTD Ninja, and the guy said that he had sold an original ESP Ninja an hour earlier... Now I don't know where you live, or if you were the lucky guy, but you better be prepared to get your baby stolen haha! ?
- Without being a spoilsport, but in the July issue of Guitarworld it had apparently been calculated on a certain structure that Shawn Lane, the fastest guitarist ever suppossedly, played 18 notes/second, and then a detailed list of other speedsters followed. So there goes the 40+ of the above-mentiond video. And commensense tells you that there's no way that 30+ notes could be played by a normal person.
- Hey guys…
I am doing research on where to go and study sound-engineering, with specific emphasis on the live- and recording side of things, and it would be really nice if anyone has a proposal… I already know about Cape Audio College, and I am hoping for this institution to be as close to Stellenbosch as possible, but the location doesn’t really matter. I am hoping to obtain a degree and not just a diploma, but that doesn’t really matter either….
- Damn... O.k, how could that've happened, since the system's virus free? Yes Wessel it was something I'd been working on for a while, but hey, that's wat happens when you dismiss your homework and try to save the world from crappp music haha.... ?
But thanks for the efforts, and if anyone else still has any idees, pleeeeeease.... - Hey guys.. Something really wasted happened to me this weekend.. I was busy with a song on guitarpro, nothing breathtaking, but I loved it, and then the power went out.. When I eventually got the system back running again, the file couldn't be opened anymore, and I nearly cried because I had put in hours of work on this.. If ANYONE can open it, or atleast tell me what to do, it would be greatly appreciated... It feels like my sole had been stolen... :( :( https://s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/attachments.guitartalk/ac1dd209cbcc5e5d1c6e28598e8cbbe8-asdasdasd.gp5
- I second that, here's Necrophagist playing Fermented Oval Dischagre in New York, (the entire show is availible for download on bunalti.com BTW...) Just listen to the solo itself, it's prettymuch flawless, and playing solo's perfectly live really isn't a walk in the park...
Here's a video containing numerous of Mohammed's chops, and although some will refer to it as bubbly or mindless widling or whatever, it still pretty much sets the standard for metal-influenced noodlers all-over... I dare anyone to fault this.
And here's my personal favourite, Stabwound, taken from the album Epitaph.. Overall, the musicianship is prettymuch insane.... Enjoy, and please comment...
- Hey guys..
After hearing that the legendary Nile will be touring SA soon, I was extremely excited and vowed to get my ticket as soon as possible, but something bummed me out, the no-under 18's warning on computicket... SInce I'm still a laaitie, but I really want to be there, can anyone comment, is the ID only for the bars, or for entering as well? - Muhammed, of Necrophagist, is one of the most influential death metal players ever. He’s of Turkish decent, grew up in Germany, and started playing at the age of 10. Muhammed, like many others, had largely been influenced by Mister Malmsteen, and this is clearly evident in his neo-classic style fret board-mastery.
Suiçmez also handless vocal duties for Nocrophagist, and has a very distinctive and powerful voice. The thing that sets him apart from all the other shredders in this over-populated genre is the fact that his writing is rather fresh and original, his guitar-tone is amazing, and his ability to play all his work exactly like it sounds on the album, is a quality still evading many players…
Necrophagist won’t be to easy on everyone’s ears, but this is definitely a band and sound worth getting used to.
- In Alexi LaihoOther amazing players include Gus G. of Firewind, John Petrucci of Dream Theater, Michael Keene of The Faceless, Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth, Kris Norris of Darkest Hour, Karl Sanders of Nile, Chuck Schuldiner of Death, Jeff Waters of Annihilator, Devin Townsend of Strapping Young Lad, Alex Skolnick of Testament, Wessel Geldenhuys of Leslie Scarlet, Muhammed Suicmez of Necrophagist, Buckethead of Buckethead and of course the mighty Chris Broderick (ex. Nevermore and Megadeth)
Although Michael Amott has been my personal guitar hero since I started playing, I now realize that he is slightly over-hyped, since it's his younger brother, Christopher Amott, that wrote some of their best riffs (most of the stuff on their best album, Burning Bridges) and a lot of the their best lead work done by him on his Caparison Dellinger Custom.
- As Wessel had previously mentioned, Jeff's first solo album is pretty damn awesome. The album itself is scheduled for release on the 30th September this year, but I stumbled upon it on a sharing site, so if anyone's in need of something different, search for it on bunalti.com.... Also check out Jeff's band, Nevermore's latest album, "This Godless Endeavour" for some of the most innovative shit you'll ever hear.
Jeff's project is all instrumental and although the album as a whole sounds the same, each track has it's own soul. I had picked up that there's an rather weird solo on the song, "Cashmere Shiv", probably coming from a 8-string bass, or a fretless guitar, but it compliments the music, and therefore it's fitting. "Miles of Machines" features this neo-classical nylon-guitar intro that would even make Jason Becker jealous, and the shredding as a whole is also top-notch.
This is a heavy metal record, make no mistake about it, but it will appeal to a larger audience, and all the songs seem to grow on you like no other will. Although no-one would ever, or soon at least, be able to outplay the master, Petrucci in terms of clinical accuracy and fret board excellence, Jeff’s attempt surely comes really close…..
Check this shit out, you’ll be amazed..
- I play (or try to play) stuff like The Faceless and Necrophagist, so the floyd and the emg's will come in handy. I have also read that the 2008-addition to the series features the 81 and 89's, the latter which I am unfamilliar with, and that these both have a push-pull function. What exactly does that entail?
Sorry for the effort, I just really don't want to waste money... - I currently own a Epiphone Les Paul Standard, but want to upgrade to something in a higher class, and the C1 seems like a good choice. Since I never found one in any musicstore in the Cape, I don't know what to expect, and because it really isn't the cheapest guitar money could buy, I want to know as much as possible about it before ordering. I am considering that specific model since I love that fat Les Paul sound, and since the Schecter also features the mahogony body and neck, I would presume that it would sound more or less the same, but I really want something with a less-bulky, or even an Ibanez-type shred-friendly neck.
It would be really great if someone could please comment on the playability, feel, looks and quality of workmanship on this baby, since this is an invest that I am really keen on...
Thanks a lot..
