  • I am not really a big fan of Shelby or whatever, but the axe plays very very nicely! PIckups are sweeter-sounding than my Highway One and the neck is smooth as silk.

I guess I am tempted store it in a glass case, but that's just not me. I am playing it every day. (People are paying lots of money for artificially "aged" axes so I might as well age mine naturally?)

I heard that Shelby died recently and I am assuming that the value of this guitar will be right up there in 10-20 years' time! ?

    • A friend of mine just sold me this. 1 of 100 made. Produced in 2009. Will hang on to this one for a while... ?

      • Congrats! She is awesome!

I nearly pulled the trigger on the same one, based on this video by Nstuff music.

        Looks like I should have...!

        • OUCH Sound clips. hmmmm. Would hate to subject your ears to my playing. ???

Excuse No.2: I have no mic for now. Best I can do is record directly on my Macbook Pro internal Mic into Logic Xpress or Garageband. But this will probably not do the sound justice....?

In the meantime here is the family photo...

          http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x331/Steynt/HEAD_CAB.jpg

I built the head from Surian Cedar and left it un-covered. So at the moment the family is a mismatch. But this fits perfectly in the Rainbow Nation..(Building the Cab just proved to be too much for my wood-working skills..) But I kinda like it this way..

          • Just received my Craig Cabinet into which I fitted a Jensen 8ohm 12" speaker. ALso my Craig Vintage Drive pedal arrived! Workmanship is TOP Top class and the sound is exactly what I wanted. I am playing the pedal thru my kit-built 5W British Overdrive amp. Hopefully I can add the photos...

I also saw this baby at a local paw(or)n shop.. Going for 3.5K. Appears to be in working condition..Appears to require some TLC...

            • Eish! I apologize for opening some raw wounds there with the Gibson comment.!

That Ibanez Is SUPER cool (except I would have preferred Silver hardware...)

Thanks I'll check out what's out there on the Tokai, Ibanez and perhaps Yamaha ranges..

              • SO I have a VOX SCC-55, and a USA Strat and I am now looking for a Humbucker git in the LP mould. HEard too many stories about Gibson quality and I am wondering what would alternatives I have?

I have narrowed it down a bit, but I really need to know which brands I should seriously consider.
My main criteria is build quality, good fretwork, straight neck all the usual suspects...
It would be nice to have a splitter for the pup's but this is not strictly required.

                Reverend Sensei HB?
                MIchael Kelly?
                PRS? (no SE)
                Vintage?

                BUdget is around the 15K-mark....?
                • NOthing to add I.T.O gigging, just wanted to say I like the songs!
                  • Thanks johnny B. This is all true, but I ordered the pedal kits via courier. This means NO post Office involvement.

I have many years experience with importing paragliders through the POst Office and it is a pain, you are right. But in this case, I paid more to get the stuff here fast, via courier!!

Just got a mail from him and he apologized. He refunded me and told me to keep the pedals if they ever get here...

Still wondering why you have to threaten people to get them to respond to you..... ???

                    • Phoned Marshall Woodmead today: They have no stock of Wampler PLexi Drives? Next stock to arrive in 2 Months?

                      What to do?

                      S
                      • Thanks so much for the info.

After asking him a few questions, he decided to give me a full refund.?! So he obviously had not sent anything. This is nearly a month after receiving the money!

BTW this was diypedal kits in the UK...

                        Thanks
                        • HI there

I have ordered two pedals from a UK outfit but he is seriously p()**ng me off with no response to my mails, delay in shipping and telling me sob stories about the courier company not tracking parcels after it leaves EUrope. (huh?)

I am considering canceling my order and would like to know if there are any DIY pedal kit suppliers in RSA? I am looking for a fuzz and perhaps a nice OD pedal?

                          • I only started playing in 2011. So I bought every bit of guitar gear I own in 2011!

AMP Maker British Overdrive 5w Amp Head Unit which I put together from kit.
First Electric was an ESP EC1000 and I fitted Fralin PURE PAF PU's to it. I have since sold that guitar as the Strat is just SO awesome in the clean range.
Fender Strat USA with Jumbo Frets- bought from DomHatch - SWEET
VOX SC 55 in black is my FAV at the moment. It seems a bit more difficult to play than the Strat, but I think it could be due to the longer scale length or perhaps the Jumbo frets (on the Strat) ? HOwever, the range of tones with those split PU's are really great!

My BEst Piece of kit though is the Justinguitar DVD Set I bought.. ?
The Practical music book he put together is the bees knees and really made all those lessons I had as a kid clear as daylight. (I managed up to Unisa grade 4 on the piano in 1984 at school...) NOw I finally understand chord construction etc etc etc.

I love the journey of learning the guitar. NOw I need a practice partner or a real teacher !
                            • I have bought from Ampmaker in the UK. I consider his prices to be reasonable and the kit really easy to build. (This is also my first amp. build.)

I paid 196.69 POUNDS at the time for the 5W kit and this INCLUDED SHIPPING. I had to fork out another 300 sefefrikan runt for customs.

                              www.ampmaker.com

I have now completed my head unit enclosure. Here are the two pics.

I plan to fix a bronze name plate (etched) with the name of the amp to complete it.

I have also started my Cabinet-making process. I have decided to stick to the "invisible" dowel method. Though not as pretty as a finger joint or some other fancy woodwork, it is easy and looks ok.

Will post pics around next week when I have time to work on it again..

                              • First coat of eggshell... About 4 coats to go ☹

I have used this product before and it leaves a very nice matte finish. Looks quite glossy on the pics as the varnish is still wet. (and diluted with 10% Turps..)

I plan to leave the back open, but if there is any reason whys this might be a bad idea, I am open to suggestions...?

                                • I like the box joint a lot, but I have decided to complete the head unit with butt-joints and "invisible" dowels. The box has now been glued and I have started sanding it. The Surian Cedar is quite "soft" and not too hard to work with. I'll post a few pics later...

I might consider doing the cabinet with box joints...It just depends how much time I WANT to spend building rather than playing ?
