/have you ever been forced to play your guitar with a missing string?

I have on a few occasions.
My 6th string and my 1st string.
It was so painful having my 6th sting missing. this was 4months into my guitar playing. I had to improvise for 2 months :'(

then I change my strings for the first time and my 1st string snapped☹ but it was fine at that time I did not need it.

Now my 1st string snapped last week while pulling a slayer solo. Now it is painful as I love playing solos. Been improvising though.

But I have noticed when it is not there you really begin to miss it.

Due to funds I will not be able to get new strings till February :'( such is life ??? ?

i am sure someone can lend you the R10.00 it will cost to get a replacement E-string??

go stand at your nearest traffic intersection with a board saying "need R10.00 for E string"..

just go into your local music shop and ask for a "Los-E"..........

a board that reads "need R10 for G-string" may yield more donations...

EDIT: investigate why the strings are snapping. Is there a sharp edge on the saddle or nut that is cutting them? Sorry to be a dumbass, but do you use a proper electronic tuner? People tend to tune ever higher and higher when tuning by ear.

Well the one with sequins wasn't so much but the one with diamantés was quite a bit!

Failing to stretch/snap new strings can also lead to premature breakage.

Yup, for the remainder of one song on Friday night. My first breakage during a gig. Freshly strung the previous day and stretched/played in, so just one of those things. Backup guitar saved my butt for the set, and string winder sorted things out between sets ?

Andy Summers once said his first guitar was missing one or two strings for 6 months before the possibility of tuning it began to dawn on him. ?

Hahaha dude I would but alas I feel dirty if I accept them? just because I don't like taking donations ? And my dad will kill me if I do?

They were about 6 months old though ??? I will use them until I they break?

and +1 for passing strings along. I'd happily send you a set too.. I mean, FEBRUARY?? MISSING A STRING?? Sorry, don't mean to shout, but that is insane.. That's like saying you have to live without a leg for 2 months... Why attempt the impossible, take the strings! ?

I also have at least 3 or 4 sets of spare strings around.. I change mine every 2 months though.. Old strings = fail!

On the breaking a string during a show deal.. I once saw Barry Thompson in a Barnyard theatre and he broke a string mid solo, most amazing thing I've ever seen. He never missed a beat and kept soloing on the B string (he snapped the E). Really was pretty inspirational, if I snapped a string mid solo i'd start playing box shapes ?

Good man, hell, I'D give you another pack if I was close there. I'm now in the position where I can have 3 or 4 spare packs of strings in my guitar's case. Mine only lasts about 4 weeks before they become nasty to play on.

@IceCreamMan, If you give him an extra set I'll pay you for the strings.

My original Epiphone strings have lasted me 6 years. Just the E (top) and B snapped, now I got Elixer Anti-Rust strings that cost a fortune!

You do not play your strings until they freakin' fall off. You do not buy new strings when the last one breaks!

Replace all your strings at least every three months. Take this from a guy who draws chuckles for playing on old dirty strings (like three months old and turning grey).

We are shocked, shocked, by what we are hearing on this thread!

Also, if someone offers you free strings, you take them. There is no shame in that. You can repay the favour by getting strings for another n00b when you are vituosos with more strings than you need (even for the 8 string guitars you are rocking).
