More Music (My band's song)

Hey Guys

We just received this song from my friend who was mixing us at Cape Audio College. He had a project to do, and decided to record and mix us. Hope you like it

* The guitar is in stereo and panned to the right, so its worth a while to make sure your right side is working.

only thing that bothered me is the vocalist's dragged out singing.

'nothing makes you kiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing'
'nothing makes you loooooooooooooord'
'anymooooooooooooooooooooore'

should rather be
'nothing makes you king'
'nothing makes you lord'
'anymooooooooooooooooooooore'

Generally a good effort.

My Comments:

Was the drummer playing to a click as he is slightly behind. Might have been some latency in the monitoring. Playing to a click is also an art one learns over time and is not easy in the beginning.

The mix lacks dynamics. No real differences between Verse and Chorus. Some creative arranging and mixing can fix that.

Also seems to me to be a bit too busy vocally and again some arranging can put more space between vocal parts to allow the song to breath more.

Thanks guys. The song was a bit of a battle. As the piano was recorded by my friend and he had never done piano in a studio, so natrually he was out, which caused the drummer to be fraction out, and the engineer had an issue quantizing the beats in the right tempo.

So Dynamics + Busy vocals, will take into considerations. Thanks

The singers voice could be catchy is done right........ Kinda like that Script (band) singer
..... I just reckon when he says moooooooore it should rather just be more
But its a good song, and if refined could easly be on 5fm, or any radio station......

Just refining of every part... AND MORE GUITARS!!!!!!!!!! ? ?

Tell you what...playing a song and recording a song are two entirely different animals and just like everything else, it's an art you learn with practice.

We have learned that doing our own recordings. As you learn the craft you hear things later you never picked up in the beginning. So take the experience as a learning one and see how you do it better next time. Our first song took something like 4 months to put together because we had to do so many things over before we got it "right".

True dat. Recording requires ridiculously clinical precision, I'm always hearing little things afterwards that need fixing, that I never heard while recording. I guess that's one of the values a producer brings; provide that objective ear.

Nice track!

I actually really like the way he stretches his words out. It gives the vocals some great character a la Sade or even Maroon 5. With a little practice it could be improved, but I actually really like the dragging out of words.

The music is good too, it just sounds like it needs a bit more polish and a few more takes.

Yes. That is a chello indeed ? Had a session player come in, only payed R200 so its a score for us either way
