i'm sorry i just don't get why someone would want to play someone elses solo "perfectly" as the discussion above is going ...re shawn lane
sorry i understand transcribing solo's to understand how the theory works ..... and to learn techniques and style........
but in my ever so humble opinion we as guitarists are artists and have our own influences which makes us unique.so why be a clone???? or want to hear a clone....... even the top cover/tribute band guitarists only copy note for note the recognisable lines and after that do their own thing in most of the solo........... so yeah if guthrie govan plays the same song with close to the same feel but not perfectly .thats exactly right cos he ain't shawn lane...... t
jazz muso's have it right we all play the same repetoire be it autumn leaves/giant steps/ sumertime/shadow of your smile and the whole list of A list jazz repetoire but every band plays summertime or any other standard differently but everyone recognises the song ..... but no one in audience demands a clone (note for note) copy they want to hear the artists interpretation of the same song ........
I love playing solos but I also like putting my own flavour in them(except if it is my fav solo then I love playing it note by note.)
Most of slayers solos I do my own thing which still fits in perfectly in with the song.
