Connecting Guitar to Macbook

What would be the cheapest way to connect my guitar to my macbook?

What do I need and where can I buy it? Im in Cape Town.

You need either a USB or Firewire audio interface.

I've used both on a MacBook successfully. Apparently the M-Audio and Behringer ones are well priced and work well. Marshall Music should have.

I use Tascams myself but they are more expensive.

Edirol also has a wide range worth a look.

Make sure you speak to the software/studio/recording dudes at the store. They tend to be more clued on this stuff than the guitar sales chaps (not always, of course).

The very cheapest way is to just get a mini jack converter and plug straight in.
Doesn't sound great but it's possible.

I started out doing this, but it did sound really awful. I believe there are also line level issues with the guitar direct into the "line-in" port, in that the Macbook line-in ports are not powered - or something - (so mics don't really work, unless they're powered) which may contribute to the awfulness.
