2. Do you want a maxon because matt heavy uses one, why cant you get something else? like the zakk wylde mxr,or get a tube screamer then get someone to mod it.
Most TS pedals sound VERY similar to each other but The ZW adds A LOT more mids to your guitar tone, than usual. If you're as picky as I am, just getting another pedal to "suffice" is not good enough :-[
The reason why Maxon is better is because it was start by the same guy that started Tube Screamers but left Ibanez and started Maxon. It's basically similar to TS's but with better circuitry thus it making it THE tube screamers of Tube Screamers. The OD820 is the flagship of all TS pedals ?
@ Martyr: I'd Recommend the Maxon 808 over the OD9.
You could do what Manfred said and modify a Pedal. The thing that makes TS pedals different are just one or two resistors in the circuit. Just find a Cheap Ibanez TS-7 (Around R 400) and buy one 10k ohm resistor and one 100ohm resistor (about R 1 for 10 of each, give them a R100 note and they'll give it to you for free ? true story) And then swap out Resistor 58 for the 10k resistor and R 55 for the 100ohm resistor. And you've made a fully functional R 1800 TS 808 (assuming you've done the soldering correctly). I've done tests and the difference is 1% ?
3.honestly THEIR IS NO PEDAL THAT WILL COMPLETELY REVOME HUM!!!!
But if you should get one, get the BOSS NS-2, they are great.
Correct there is almost no pedal, but there is a rack mount unit. The ISP Pro rack G that acts as a downward expander not a gate so it doesn't cut off your signal at all ?
It has two channels one for the input of the guitar to eliminate pickup noise before the amp, and one channel to go through your FX send/return for further 'cleaning'.
The NS-2 does work really well as a gate though, But I don't play with a lot of gain so I don't get any feedback even with my TS pedal on 100% of the time
