Hi guys
SUGGESTION:
Was speaking to Alan 'bout this earlier today.
To save all the repeated answering of common questions (eg: "what amp should I get with my bonus ?") how about this:
GEAR PURCHASING ADVICE (Whatever u want to call it)
- Amps
- Instruments
- Effects
- Accessories (Strings, tuners, useful bits & pieces)
- Buying tips (asking for discount, checking warrantee and backup service for repairs)
All 3 of the above sections should have general advice, trusted brands.
recommendations for buying in 3 price brackets (cheap 1st time beginner, working muso, doctor eg ?
but aimed at what is avail LOCALLY.Can include retail price and a decent discount price.
List of types of effects with brand recommendations per effect eg OVERDRIVES - Ibanez TS808 etc ...
Locally avail. brands - ie save kids asking about boutique non-local avail. stuff.
- What to look out for when buying/selling 2nd hand
- Retail shop listing per town with contacts.
- Advice/good sites for online purchases.
Whew !
Feedback when ready boys

In short, what we are beginning to need is an F.A.Q. - a "Frequently Asked Questions" document that we can make a sticky and update as necessary. Then we can simply refer the new folk to it when they ask the question.
Some thought has to be given to how to compile the information. To start, maybe have an "FAQ" forum where we can all discuss what items to recommend and have a "sticky" list which summarises the consensus. The sticky will be locked so that only Norio or I can edit it, to keep it under control - all suggestions and discussion about items will be in the forum itself.
Whaddaya'll think?

Definitely think the faq is required as to be fair most of the guitar wielding madmen that find there way here are initially at least looking for a specific piece of advice...
I think the answer to the gear though due mainly just to how often prices availability and new models change is to start posting gear "reviews" if you go through the many threads covering gear advice it's normally quite comprehensive albeit unstructured perhaps if we organised gear reviews with a broad template similar to harmony central. When a gear query arises the poster is able to compare like for like from a range of gear that's been "reviewed"
My two cents.

Hi guys
Specifically Alan/Norio - I can type up a proposal doc 4 this FAQ - I've covered a lot of it in my career and current dealings ESP 2nd-hand market.
will take a bit of time though - even if it's a basic word doc - rather clear & to the point than fancy & frilly

Gareth - go for it. Would be a good starting point if you don't mind posting it for the rest of us to pick apart and make suggestions.

What I'm struggling with most is choosing where to post certain topics. I mean, If I want to now record a new song, but first want to get recommendations on what effects to use or whatever, I shouldn't really put that under recordings, cause it's not the recording yet? Any Advice as to where to post plsss?
NorioDS
The thing is, this is a forum, it's not meant to be strict and conscise. It's a great place to throw IDEAS around until you get to a finished product. As well as, of course, showing off your finished product. So don't stress about where you stick it. If it's not ideal, either Alan or I will move it. Just post something, that's WAY more important than getting the right board!

Ok, glad to hear that Norio. I sit for 5 mins thinking of where to put stuff.

Norio, If you don't mind I think I'm going to change the descriptions of some of the categories so that "Reviews" also includes CD and show reviews and "Recordings" to include technique and recording gear, etc. That may help avoid a little confusion.
It may also be time to incorporate a dedicated bass forum - there's quite a few frequenting the forum now.

Sounds gooood ? I don't mind at all.
