I recently bought an 80s artist (a weird one, it has no binding or headstock inlay, sounds awesome though) that has quite a few chips and dents in its finish, in some bits the wood sticks through.
Anyway, how would I fix this? Would I have to completely strip the finish and redo it, or could I just touch it up somehow?
And if I got a pro to do it how much would it cost?
Thanks

Too many variables - type of finish, finish colour, wood stains, yellowing, how much finish is damaged, how much wood damage, is wood dinged or gouged, etc., etc., etc.. So it's best to take it to a pro for an evaluation. If it's a complete refinish, it will be a big expensive job though.

Ja, I figured it'd probably be easier to sand it all off and do a new colour.
On that topic, does anyone know where to buy orange (like on a gretsch) and a good guitar quality lacquer in South Africa. I know Stewart MacDonald sells a gretsch orange, but I'd prefer to buy South African.

I dont mean to sound rude, but I think you have lots more research to do before you refinish your guitar.
Guitars are not furniture... ?

by orange i mean orange stain.
Also, does anyone know if gretsch orange is a stain underneath clear lacquer or an orange tinted lacquer?
