4 Pole 5 Way lever Super switch

Please explain to me how this works?

do you only have 5 positions? i thought this would allow more than just 5 options?
if it does, how would you choose more positions?

please excuse my stupid question!

With some clever wiring and a dpdt / pushpull you can have 10 positions ?

thats exactly the thing that puzzles me!

let me give you the options i would like to have:

1. Neck
2. Neck / Middle
3. Neck / Middle / Bridge
4. Middle
5. Middle / Bridge
6. Bridge
7. Neck / Bridge

So the only "extra" options i would like is middle on its own, and the neck / bridge option too! for the tele sound!

For that, the easiest way is a neck or bridge on switch ?

It's still only got five positions, but the extra poles let you wire in any combo in any position and do some creative wiring or complex arrangements that you can't with a standard switch. The Fender S1 Switching gives you two sets of five sounds with a Super Switch and a single 4PDT switch.

To be honest, five positions is perfect for playing - gives you a wide range of sounds and is still simple enough to use live. The beauty of the 5-way is it's easy to use and you always know where you are - you can see and feel exactly what you have selected, even when you can't hear (it happens). Moving up to six way rotary switches (like some of the PRSi), you don't always know where you are without turning the rotary all the way to one side and then counting the clicks as you turn back to what you want. While a six or seven way lever switch is possible, it would make it more difficult to see and feel where you are (particularly between position 2 &3 as well as 5 & 6).

I use the Super switches to replace the middle position with other pickup combos - my Stratele (TSS) has "bridge + neck" (for a more tele-like middle position) and my Strat has "All three on" in the middle position. I can do that because I never use the middle pickup by itself and love the quacky multi-pickup sounds.

+1 to adding a "neck on" switch. That's the easiest way of doing it.

The problem with them is that quick switching is not possible like it is with a lever switch.

In your case I would do what MikeM suggests and add a bridge on/off switch

Would i be better off then just getting one of these schaller megaswitches and a push pull pot?

What pots should i be looking at? could i get them locally for a reasonable price?
i have seen guitar pots at rs electronics, but it doesnt look as if they have push pull pots there!

I would like to replace all my pots and my selector switch... thats why all the questions!
