Opinions Please - Gibson SG

Hello.

I've always wanted to own a Gibson SG and I've found someone selling one. unfortunately it has a crack on it's headstock which seams to be repairable.
The guy selling it want's R8k for it, is it worth it? I've added a few pics.

If I were you - I'd look at the SG Standard on Gumtree for a few k more
8k for a classic with a cracked headstock to me is not worth it.

But thats just my opinion.

Stay away imho. You may get the crack fixed, BUT selling it again with a repaired headstock won't be easy...I certainly will not buy such.
Rather get the SG Standard as Andrew says.

i'd also save up a few extra bones and get something that is not damaged.

Either make him a lowball offer because of the lesser value of the item due to the crack or move on and find something that isnt damaged ?

I agree with Nick, I also dont feel the guitar is worth R8k with a cracked headstock. If it were a Fender, then different story, you could always switch the neck with another one. For R5k I could maybe live with the crack :-\ but then again I'd probably save up a bit more cash and buy a clean one.

Up to about R6K. Maybe R8K if it had already been professionally repaired, but IINM, you could get a new one for about R12K or a good s/h one for R10K.

SG's are known for having problems with there necks, you know,braking and stuff,if it has a crack on the head it means that the guitar has already taken a strong blow....I think you should check for sum thing else man.... ?

I got mine off ebay. Wait for a killer deal locally, or do the same and import one. The SG std's and 61 reissues seem to be great. The guys on the Les Paul forum rave about the P90 SG specials. I ended up putting humbucker sized P90s in my SG.

I agree. R6K would be the absolute max. Even that's iffy given what you're going to have to put in to repair the break. This is a special, right? A faded special? You should be able to import one with no damage for R5,000 + under R1K shipping at the moment. So I think R8K for a damaged one is way too much.

Classics have fretboard binding and P90s. Definitely the coolest low-priced Gibson SGs at the moment.
