Apparently very detailed about early days and music... the ghost writer is very good as well, Keith's tone really comes through in the excerpts I've read. Do yourselves a favour though, if you can get your hands on a doccie called 25 x 5 The Continuing Adventures of the Rolling Stones, do so. You will need a video machine to play it but it is EXCELLENT, lovely interviews, footage, music.

I am about 70% thru, trying to read too many books at the same time steals time from this one. So far its a candid look at his life and while the drugs are mentioned it is not the focal point of the book. Its really a chronical of his life and does spend a good amount of pages on the early years. I never realised what prolific songwriters Richards/Jagger were . In the early years they were writing songs whcih were recorded by other muso's while the stones themselves were recording mostly covers ....

Excellent read thus far and i have another 3 rock n roll lives heading my way:

gotta admire keith Richards ..what an amazing career and one that has been ongoing since the 60's at the highest level of rock star and never quite retiring.what an inspiration.........

on a lighter note i once heard a comedian..........i forget who....... who commented on the sean penn movie dead man walking (about the execution of a killer)........... but this comedian said he saw the movie without knowing too much about it and was utterly dissapointed cos from the title "Dead man walking" he expected the movie to be an autobiographical film about keith richards ?

I got the kindle version and I'm reading the first part now, about his childhood. So far it's excellent.

If you find the part about the jagger/richards partnership interesting, you really should read "The Stones". Well written and easily readable all the same.

So my copy arrived today (I am not supposed to know, because this is my Xmas present), but I managed to have a sneak "preview"........ and quickly put it away, before my wife finds out I know, (she leaves packages lying around) .......hahahaha....

I see that the South African, Blondie Chaplin is mentioned, together with a pic of him and Keith live on stage ......... boy, am I burning to read that part, but I'll just have to wait until Xmas .... wow, what a year 2010 has been.......... ? ?

Great read and the Jagger/Richards friendship makes interesting reading. A true legend of the music industry.

Mine just arrived too.....also supposed to be a gift i dont know about.

Excuse the necropost, but it makes sense to put it in this thread...

I went away for the long weekend with the extended family and started reading Life. Loving it so far, I've never been able to get into the Stones, sadly, but it reads exactly the way you'd expect in some ways ("and that's how I got shot for the first time") but also has some great little technical gems- insights into open tunings, alternate ways of playing a 12 bar progression, locking in with the drummer etc. It inspired me to pull the low string off my acoustic and try some open G riffing today. Good fun, and a good music lesson.
