i was browsing thru gumtree and found an ad for a yamaha classical CG170 sa , solid spruce top indian rosewood back and sides and nato neck... in mint condition for R1500
wow what a nice guitar i recently bought a 2nd hand CG171 S the succesor to this CG170 and hated it .far too thin sounding ... so initially thought i would hate this too.............. but wow this CG 170 SA is loud and with great definition.......... it seems the successor is actually not as strong acoustically as the predacessor ( how the hell do you spell that ? )
if ever a guitar was a keeper this is it .........
so in last few months i have found 2x brazillian di georgio guitars....( you'd laugh if i told how cheap ) .. and this cg 170 sa that was not a giveaway but still a good deal ........
the new guitar the CG170SA is anything from 10 - 20 yrs old and has a nice matured sound.... rounded tops but clear precise bass........... as they only made them from 1989 - 1999 whereafter they were repaced by the CG171S
now if only i can find a cedar top cg guitar in the top end of the range..........
a tip i read on a classical site is that cedar is the better choice for the soundboard (top) of mid priced instruments to top end production line instruments ..... ......as apparantly cheaper spruce which is used in the mid to upper range of production guitars is not as good as cedar something to do with the grain not being close enough together on cheaper spruce even if it's a solid top.......
so anyone with a CG170CA ( the CA standing for solid cedar top) please contact me and we'll talk biz ?
jeez i love gumtree ? always a deal to be had
