Ages ago I had the chance of buying a JEM. It had an interesting choice of a neon yellow body, yellow (or was it green?) tree of life inlay, and pink (yes, pink) pickups.

After looking around a bit I found a picture of one:

I didn't want to say anything this morning. But since everybody feels the same. I really think it's a cry for attention? It's a miracle he didn't build in a fan to blow his hair up like the ones he has on stage. The sad thing is that Steve Vai is so awesome he could play a Ritmiller and still be awesome. He could really relax and just be normal.

You guys need to remember that these artists who have signature series guitars are not sitting all day thinking of ways to make more guitars. I think it's Ibanez that approaches them and asks them to release something really crazy that true fans would want and buy?

I used to also belong to the "Steve Vai is a talented but an annoyingly arrogant prick" society until I got the man's profound sense of humour. IMO he loves pulling the piss out of his adoring fans. I can imagine Ibanez bowing and scrapping, "prease Mr Vai we wish to honour you and your ancestors with Steve Vai signature guitar, prease rook through designs". And Steve thinks now that paint job looks like a chameleon just got sick and yeah those pickups and knobs are really ugly mothers. Anybody who pays good money for that ... well lets see how depraved my fans really are?

don't get me wrong. I have no doubt that Steve personally wanted those designs, and unlike majority on the forum, I think it looks damn hot, but I am sure they are approached to design and endorse ne things all the time by many companies. Look at Satch. He has guitars with Ibanez, pedals now with Vox, and amps with Peavey. I doubt he has the time to go around looking for things like that given his live shows non stop and albums inbetween.
