Guys...I have just received TWO emails saying that my e-address got picked to win $1m ! In fact I've been getting these announcements for at least 2 months now and collectively I've won at least $10m ! I have not claimed it yet... ☹
What's up ?
Am I the only winner of such vast amounts....? or are there more such extremely lucky GFSA'ers ?

gee's guys how cool is that? I mean, what are the odds that so many of us have had such good fortune,, I was emailed by some Iraq war veteran who said he's selected me (can you believe, it? ME? ??? out of all the billions of people out there...) to look after he's millions of dollars, all I have to do is send him by bank details, account numbers, ID numbers, address, telephone numbers, etc,etc,..Now I can buy that PRS I've always dreamed about, what the hell I'll buy two!! ?

Anyone want my UK lottery spoils for this week? I've won it three times last week and a total of 143 times over the course of the year. I'm starting to feel guilty for the extreme good fortune I've had and am quite willing to pass on to someone else.

Seriously...I get these emails AND those from banks (wanting to confirm account details) on a daily basis. What's worrying is that my "blacklist" tool is not effective against this spam.

The solution is not just to keep your e-mail address from getting out because that is nigh impossible. I can see your e-mail address by looking at your profile and I can sell it or use it or whatever. No the second, and perhaps more important, part of avoiding spam is to have a solid spam filter in place and gmail still does as good a job as any on that front.

Its not just you guys, with my cell number, I have won R950,000.00 from nokia twice this year! Its just weird that I still have to pay my bond every month.... ???

Say you actually give these spammers your bank account details, etc. Can they do anything with it ...? Surely our banks must have mechanisms in place to kerb e-fraud ..?

Absolutely Vic, they can empty your bank account. We had a guy calling Radio 702 this morning, they just relieved his Standard Bank account of R350,000.00, and here's the chilling part, the bank will NOT take responsibility...... how sick is that. Go to "Hello Peter" and see all the complaints against Standard Bank!

My advice is when I get these mails, don't even open/ pay attention to them, just DELETE!!!!! get out pronto!!!! >☹ >☹ >☹

Thanks Aubs...this is serious stuff then hey ? ? How can a bank NOT take responsibility for their inadequate security measures. I can understand, if one would be so dum as to provide PIN numbers etc., that you'll be scammed and robbed, but otherwise...?

Vic, buy a copy of Noseweek if you want scary tales of good folks being shafted by banks and big business. Every now and then there's an article that makes you want to withdraw your savings and keep it under the mattress...

And then I use to think that our traditional banks' business is ethically sound..! more and more horror stories are surfacing nowadays... ☹

There was an interesting insert on Carte Blanch a week or two ago about how banks in the eighties and nineties were making big bucks by deliberately using flawed interest calculations on home loans and were overcharging their clients by billions. They were caught out and gradually stopped doing it, but there are still many many home owners still paying a bond that, if worked out correctly from the start, they had actually already paid of in full - and then some..

I watched that programme.Scary indeed. The guy who is taking them on lives here in Stellenbosch.
