I would take the Jackson, since I'm a Jackson guy ?
You will have to replace the pups in the Jackson, the stock JC30 pups is just not nice!
The Cort guitar do have EMG pups, but remember it is not active pups, and those are the ones you want!

i would go the Cort for one reason only...its more comfortable to play whilst sitting as the lower fin is shorter... I own a V , very very nice to play but a lil cumbersome when seated.

The guy from Bullet for my Valentine plays on a Jackson, but that Cort is amazing.
The Cort uses the EMG HZ pick ups which I can attest to are PHENOMINAL for their price range.

Jackson>Cort
However, this is not a high level Jackson. I still think the Jackson is a better instrument than the cort. A change of pups in that jackson and you have yourself a gem!
FruitarGeek
The Jackson is closer? save on petrol hahaha.

If you can, go play both and take the one that 'speaks' to you more...
stu
push the sellers for a better price and see who will give you the best price. ?
id go for the cort though
aja
For me it would come down to fixed bridge vs floating
What would you prefer?
I am a fixed bridge man but I would take the cort nonetheless
guidothepimmp
lol... jackson isnt necessarily better than cort.
if the jackson is the js model i would give it a miss. thats their entry level. easy way to verify is the crafted in india bit.
the vx 4v is a midlevel instrument with great specs.
id take the cort in this case. however if the kv is a pro model...
things change. pro models are japanese and have a 7 digit serial

The Jackson is definitely a JS series. The dot inlays and price is a giveaway ?

Well I was in the exact same position as you when I bought my guitar. I am in fact the owner of the Cort, so this may seem like a bit of a 'sales pitch', but I will give my honest opinion nontheless ?
When I set out to get myself a V, a was interested in both the Jackson JS model, and the Cort. I tried them both, and I really did not like what i saw and felt in the Jackson. Overall the quality was less than that of the Cort, and the Cort had a much better feel and sound.
However, I suggest that you play both, and see which one you are most comfortable with. Because at the end of the day, its not about the brand or model, its about what feels and sounds best to you.
Another thing as mentioned by aja, is the difference between the bridges, The Cort has a floating bridge system, with a double locking tremolo system, whereas the jackson has a fixed bridge system. Its all about what you want in a guitar.
