I'd rather see a real Firebird played by PhilX
PhilX can really play man. Super entertaining - although I fear he's going to end up on the streets if he doesn't stick very closely to his psychiatrist's prescriptions ?
The thing is, a Firebird is a wild guitar and a great platform for doing something new. But look at the basic layout of the guitar. Nothing looks gimmicky because everything balances. It's got a super-large headstock - but that's ok, because the pegs all stick out the back, so the silhouette is normal sized. You know what I mean? It's got a big body, but the central neck through section means that it's not just a big flat expanse. This guitar is
designed.
Henry's FailbirdX just doesn't have any of that balance. It's clear sign that they can't design guitars at Gibson at the moment. What disappoints us about that is that you kind of hope that the next SG, the next Firebird, is going to come along. The Nighthawk sort of, almost, was that guitar - and there's a serious fanclub for those things. But this shows that it's not going to happen for the foreseeable future. That's why it sucks.
