Want to Upgrade my Pickups...

“First of all is it necessary” I want to upgrade my pickups on my Standard Fender Tele. I have being looking at Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound (lead & rhythm) STL-3 and STR-3 because they are Progressive pickups perfect for classic rock, jazz-rock fusion, heavy rock and aggressive instrumental rock the music im into. (The funny thing is I don’t even know how much they cost) Is there maybe any other options that I can look at?

Hey Cornflakes, check these Tele pups out: http://store.guitarfetish.com/catepisethle.html Basically like putting a set of decent humbuckers in your Tele. Noiseless and not expensive at all. I think Alan and Joey have some experience with GFS pickups (good experiences from what I understand - maybe they can chip in) and from what I've heard they're very good, irrespective of the low price. Incl. post/ shipping charges it comes to under R500 for the set or around R700 with Express Courier shipping. I'd say go for these, especially considering the price vs the Duncans. I'm a big believer in Duncans, but for the money and based on the reviews I'd say take a leap and buy these.

I don't have experience with the GFS Tele pickups, but I have used their Filtertron types and was pleasantly surprised. Great pickups for the money. Sure, you can do better - but only at triple the price, and I know a few trustworthy tonehounds who rave about one or two of their models. They also have a few unusual ones like the Lipstick humbuckers or Lipstick Tele models (pic below).

I have a pair of these in my electric 12-string:
