Thank you. You okes have just confirmed what I have suspected for a while now. Time to get another job. I used to play cricket, squash and golf - first two competitively and golf socially. Went hiking about twice a year, read a couple of books a month. But sadly thats all in the past. Now I barely have time to play guitar, my x-box is gathering dust and it takes me a month or more to read anything thicker than a magazine. What little time I have is spent with the missus, and thats not nearly as much as I should hey. So bottom line - Stay Away From Retail if you want a life.

ive taken a liking to woodworking but its frustrating cos i dont have a decent workspace. i also play golf but all my golf buddies have emigrated. used to play football but my knees are stuffed.
so that leaves tinkering on guits and avoiding the mrs onslaught about spawning a yungun.. sigh

Oh yes, woodworking a bit - i go to the woodworkers assoc meetings and mix it with the old guys there. And I do that in prep for finding the time to build a guitar or two. I ordered a kit and havenet had time to even look at it. Maybe I'll do that soon. Or maybe try something lessa ambitious - i see stewmac got a ukelele kit. what do you think?
Somthing else that has blown up my you know what is that I want to go camping. You know in a tent with hiking shoes and shorts and bobby socks and all. And my wife reckons this is no good but then again I just went ahead and booked a camp site at the Natal seaside for later in Novemeber and she is so acid she can spit. But maybe the bobby socks and shorts will get her keen on this lets see. I'll tell you what it cost me for 7 nights what I pay for one in a chalet or flat or something so that's good for me. I suppose I cant really take a guitar down there hey? It will lie in a hot tent I wonder how the guys do it.

Cool topic ?
I have two kids, Mia (5) and Jordan (4) and I spend lots of time with them. In fact I'm playing the music at their little annual school concert (the theme is Grease 8)). +1 to finding ways to combine interests!
I've always been a big gamer, and I'm still fairly into World of Warcraft (since starting around 2006). XBox for console gaming. Big into animated films of all sorts.
I read a lot (not as much as I used to), I run about 30-40 kms every week and try get the odd weights session in. I do the odd bit of scuba diving when we can save up to get away.
Dabbled in writing various bits of code on various platforms, sometimes for a living, but these days mostly as a hobby. Apple Macs are my fave machines of the moment (for the past 3/4 years or so), and they're an interesting platform to write on.
Amongst all this I have a girlfriend who tries hard to score a booking with me from time to time. ?

I've got 2 girls, one's almost 5 and 5 months ... so time for any other stuff is a bit limited. When I do have spare time I really enjoy PC gaming, mostly shooters; Battlefield, COD etc. but I also race regularly in the SA Racing League online (we play rFactor ... its a sim = you need a wheel and pedals ? ). I'm a big sports nut ... watch pretty much any sport but I'm mainly into rugger (go Sharks!), F1, cricket and soccer (big Arsenal fan).
Not much time to play golf / tennis / squash anymore. ☹

Mountain biking in Koeberg Nature Reserve. Battling against molerats which equals gardening, on the West coast! Writer's Circle. White wine or black stout! Reading well written fiction. Dogs and more recently dog training. Entertaining the bat pack occasionally (my son's Black Metal friends) and then there's the Art - the cartooning and searching for inspiration ... Oh and now there's a bit of photography starting. ?

I love movies in the comfort of my own home so I hire a lot of DVD's. I like cooking mainly Levantine and Mediterranean food. I can't say I really like garden but I like growing things mainly flowers and herbs for cooking and recreational purposes. I could say that I am keen cyclist, swimmer and hiker then but then I would be just blatantly lying. 8)

This whole post's a lie. I happen to KNOW that ALL Rene does is play guitar ?
@ linds: +1 on the black stout!

Levantine? ???

I'm quite boring actually, as just about everything I do is music-related - playing, fixing, writing, recording, producing, etc.. I do a lot of other stuff (web sites, photography, electronics) in a minor way, but it's all centred around what it can do for something musical.
I used to read a lot (bordering on obsessively - on average a book a day), anything from novels to science. These days it's more likely to be a manual or a book on recording or repair or gear reviews online.

Mmm, I'd have to say Watches, Mountain Biking and woodworking...
Problem with the abovementioned hobbies is they all are darn expensive... (the relentless persuit of perfection...)
So when enough cash is saved up to spend on one of the 4 hobbies (guitars/ music being the other) it's always a battle to decide just which one to spend it on!
Currently I'm torn between buying a new amp... or a new watch (if I can find a decent sale)...
But by the look of things the amp will win this bout though... ?
Are there any other watch fundis on the forum, besides Brent?

Levantine? Huh?
Yup that what I said Levantine - relating to the countries and cultures on the east side of the Mediterranean. Ie Turkey, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Israel and Egypt. Don't tell me that you have never eaten Couscous or a Shawarma
