Gibson Epiphone Les Paul - R2000.. Worth it?

My friend is selling me this Gibson Epiphone Les Paul for R2000. Its seems perfect. The pickup selector has slightly snapped off but its still able to operate. According to the serial i think it was made in Japan in 1986. It seems like a good price! I might sell it though in a few months if I don't like it (i'm more metal but also enjoy a bit of classic rock), so people can place first dibs.

Actually MY MISTAKE!
You were right, that is an S, not an 8.
So its:
Samick Plant, Korea
July 1996
Production Number: 5975

FenderBender

Yeah that "8" looked a little large! The S identifies Samick as the manufacturer.
