I'm against cover BANDS...the people who insist on playing other peoples songs for money instead of writing their own
In this sad economical climate people everywhere are resorting to do whatever it takes to put food on their tables, and I see no problem with that.
The last band I auditioned for specifically practiced mainstream commercial hits to play in the pub on Friday nights.
"He who pays the piper calls the tunes"... ever heard that saying before...? The paying audience down at the local pub want to hear recognisable radio hits...
if you sing along to sequenced hits that's half the battle won and you'll be paid for the evening. Just about every pub or local venue has a band in it playing 'radio his'.
Just because it's not my own flavour doesn't mean it's unworthy, I still enjoy watching that guitarist pulling off a Hendrix solo. :applause:
I personally prefer playing stuff I enjoy doing, invariably it's the blues and it's a very old Southern American ditty that's been re-hashed a few times by the British electric blues movement and played by a number of performers before me.
I doubt it'll pay, but I'll enjoy doing them again. ?
I also notice a helluva lot of the radio hits I hear these days are old songs from the last century, and these boy bands are also becoming rich and famous. 8)
