Progressive Metal Track

Hey all, I'm quite new to this forum.

This is an instrumental version (I know not everyone likes screaming vocals) of one of the tracks from my band's album, which I'm currently producing.

Sorry about the size ? It's quite lengthy, but contains just about everything, it's quite progressive... Slow clean sections, slow heavy sections, fast heavy sections, guitar solos, orchestras, and quite a variety of instruments. We recorded it at my place a few months ago, and I've been producing it (Along with ten other tracks) for quite some time now. The track hasn't been mastered yet but it's nearing that phase!

I don't remember the fine details, but I used a couple of Shure, AKG and Samson mics. A Fender, an Ibanez, a Jackson, and a Les Paul was used for guitars. A Line 6, Boss ME70 and a Boss GT10 were the pedals. A Marshall and a Vox was used for amps.

Any feedback would be highly appreciated ?

I loves it! Very epic composition and careful technique. Well done. I hear a little Symphony X influence there. Don't add vocals! LOL. Sorry I love instrumentals.

Sounds really good, very epic as others have said. Clean and clear as day. The lead tone is really nice, glassy yet full. The section at 6:55 gets me everytime (well twice I've listened now).

So is this a gigging band? Are you self-distributing this upcmoing album? Good luck, hope you sell loads. I'll check out more of the stuff later.

I'm beginning to realise that there are no short progressive metal tracks... ?

I have the attention of a goldfish, so I had to listen twice and paid better attention the second time. It took me a little while to get used to the "volume" factor. This isn't really my style, but I noticed there were some nice dynamics. There's very much a story to the peice, and I think that's a good quality to have.

If I had to compare it to a book, I would have to say "Lord of the Rings". Every now and then they get to some Elvin stronghold, but most of the time they're in perilous danger (coincidentally I had to read that book/s twice too).

I think you can be pleased with being compared to Tolkien. ?

Hey man, yeah I've known about it for a long time, but I don't usually have the time to frequent forums. I decided to join now because hell, I'm at work, need I say more ?

Thanks man ? Yes we do gig once a month, give or take. We're currently busy focusing on rehearsing all the tracks for the album launch later this year. Some of the tracks are far more difficult to play than this one! We will be self distributing across the country, and there will be a digital release too - I am currently busy building our .com website.

Haha yeah, this is (currently) our longest track. That said, it's also the most progressive one. I'm glad you enjoyed the track even though you're not familiar with the style thereof, as this is what I strive to achieve during songwriting and production. I might upload another one later this week after I remove the vocals, as I'm quite certain they won't be as appreciated here as much the guitar work would ?

Haha ? Thanks, that's funny and flattering! I do generally have a mental image or story in mind when writing music and lyrics, such as an early historic kingdom or battlefield, or something of the sort.
