Haai, got a 2nd hand Boss Super Chorus...plugged it in...sounds like it works, but there's this constant humming noise in the background, it gets louder when I switch to the O/D channel. [Roland Cube 60]
Got any ideas?

Is it running on a power supply? If so, try with a battery and if that cures it, it's a ground loop.

Hey Alan,
It is running off a power adaptor [Ellis, one of those you can change the Voltage], just have to get battery to test that possibility...do you recommend any reasonably priced power supply's or is that Elis fine? I have a Line6 and then the Boss, will most prob axpand as my wallet expands [Very, VERY SLOWLY ?]
P.S. How does one get rid of that irritating ground loop?
AlanRatcliffe
Firstly, NEVER use an Ellies adaptor - they are the cheapest, nastiest power supplies on the market. There's a good chance that if you upgrade that, your problem will go away. But quite aside from noise issues, when they die (and they do) they take all your pedals with them.
Ground loops are usually only a problem when you power more than one pedal with one supply. The good power supplies (CIOKS, Voodoo Lab, etc.) have multiple discrete outputs to get rid of loop problems.

ISH, I'll have to destroy it ASAP... ?. Thanks Alan.

+ 1 million to what Alan said......
Kill it before it kills your pedal

just another 5 cents - I suppose it is the CH-1 from boss when you say the Super Chorus. It is the strangest thing that it seems the Ch-1's are very sensitive to all kinds of power issues. Some time ago, it was actually the reason for joining this forum, I had a hassle with my ch-1 and in the end it was the LED on my dd-20 that when it was switched on, it caused a kind of a 60cycle humm on just the ch-1. Not on any of my other pedals. moved it on the same powersupply as the dd-20 and the problem was gone.
Still to this day in different venues, when the ch-1 is switched on it gives a humm. I've found in venues when there is a geyser that is switched on or even just a urn that shares the same earth it goes . . . hummm!!!! but as soon as I go to another venue it works fine again. It seems it has something to do with the thermostat, because as soon as the urn switched off again, the humm left as well. will replace the ch-1 in the future without a doubt.
And finally, do get rid of the Elis PS as it is detrimental to your pedals health and the building where you are using it. hehe. they work fine on skylectric sets though. Yea!!!
