Ola peeps
This in Junkmail
Is it worth R700?
I dont know if its a Bullet Strat but the seller is seding me a pic of the headstock later with the serial number.
Keira-WitherKay
i would say go play it ......... and see if you like it ....... not the tone so much but the feel of neck and the overall vibe the guitar gives you ( yes very hippy but it works... guitars have a soul too you know ?)
cos for R700 (and maybe less if you negotiate) you can't expect too much ........... but its so little money that one could buy it as an impulse buy ( if you like it of course) and if you lose interest in a few months just sell it off... for 700 it will sell again .......
and if you likeit use it as an upgrade platform........ new tuners and pups can make an entry level guitar sound awesome and quite unrecognisable from the original tone.....and at not much investment .
cos remember any cash you spend on upgrading to good tuners and pups won't be lost cos when you sell the guitar you remove the upgrades and stick in the original pups and tuners ........ and just re use the upgrade pups and tuners for another guitar ........ of if you don't have one at moment .just put em in a draw and wait till next gas attack on a entry level guitar
so for 700 if you like it i say it's worth buying even if it's a short lived romance with it ?
singemonkey
+1 to all that.
guidothepimmp
yes, agreed wth everything Keira said! ?

a grand in the hand is worth 2 in the bush....
to me Squiers depend on where they are made.

I would go for it, Fender are to as like a ' building platform', though I only have a P-Bass so I can't judge the actual guitars so much. I'm used to a Epiphone Les Paul Custom, so its like comparing golden apples to pears!

This is an 06 China (CY) serial number. Any good?

Made by Yako in Taiwan. It's probably average as far as Squiers go. Google Squier Talk and ask about it on that forum. They are sure to know if it's a (reputedly) good Squier or not.
But yea, before making any decisions, play it first. If it speaks to you, go ahead ?

aint u going to uk?
700 ront is not a lot of money .... just do it ...after all its got Fender on the headstock.
can always offload it again
Edit: buy it , if you dont like it or you leave to go to uk i give 100 less n u paid for it .... could use a right handed guitar in the house for my son or seeing as christmas is coming up give it to my nephews or something ....
so yr biggest risk is 100 za ront ,,enough for 3 pints of fosters ......

The neck alone if in good shape is worth 700. I wouldnt really care much for the rest of the guitar. They usually way over-route the crappy wood body on chinese squier's.
If the neck feels good grab the guitar...u might find someone who can build u a new body out of ash, mahogany or alder....then fit the neck on and u got a winner. 8)

Well guess what I just bought...
Very very small chip on the body (but only one layer chipped so you cant even see it. with two very very small dents as well.
Neck is perfect and very comfy.
Should the pickguard be slightly off-white?

Guys, I want to clean this up nicely but noticed a few things.
It uses 9 gauge strings and I only got 10 guage. Can I put the ones back once I have cleaned?
The screws are a bit rusty, anyone know where I can get or anyone maybe have some spare Fender screws I can buy?
makepeace
I would think you could put 10's on..
I got a replacement set of screws for my Squier from www.stewmac.com. Decided not to waste time looking for them around here, cause I think they'll be pretty hard to find.
If its just a little bit of rust try soak them in vinegar for a day and then scrub them.
infernox
Vinegar... mmm ill try that.

There's also a product called Q12 available at Checkers Hypers. Removes rust and protects against further rust as well. Worked quite well for me. If the rust is too bad you'll have to replace though.
